A mess
Some years ago I gave up watching the ABC and Commercial news broadcasts turning to SBS World News instead.
It covers local and global in depth at time.
Since the advent of the Virus it has shown more of many countries than before, countries hard hit by the Virus.
Over 2,000 years ago Christianity began and the world moved forward, though not always in a good way.
Since WW2 man has made great advances in communication, medical science and technology, more so than in the preceeding 2,000 years.
But viewing the news from some countries I begin to wonder what is wrong with the world?
Many nations in Africa, Middle East, South America and others give the impression they have failed to move very far past the 2,000years.
Countries where water is still at a premium very often drawn from the village pump. Housing that looks not far removed from that lived in by the cave man.
Countries where hospitals and general medical services are almost non existant. Food in short supply, cooking still being done on open fires. little employment for so many! We can put a man on the moon but cannot feed the populous!!!
But why?
Why are there so many in this situation in what we care to call a civilised world, so civilised they still war with each other.
Often brought about by cultural or religious divisions, many kill and then call it Ethnic cleansing, sounds more palatable than murder, which is what it is.
Countries such as India, more millionaires and Billionaires than any other nation yet half the people live in poverty.
Greed and lack of compassion for his fellow man is in my opinion the root cause of this.
The world is, and no other way to put it, A Mess!!!
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: A mess
Hi John.
An appeal on TV yesterday showing a young child in Africa, and calling for money to build water pumps, the CHILD must now be around forty years old, that same appeal was on TV when we were in NZ over ten years ago. As for the greed, it has increased over the years we now live with Vulture Capitalism, people like Musk sending big boys toys into space, while people starve to death.

Re: A mess
des if you want beach side apartments on the south of France they would most likely belong to an African politician or African army officer Africa could be the most richer country on earth its got every mineral on the planet i spoke to a fella that works for the red cross the first thing that goes on the truck before any food is a satchel of cash to get past the check points along the roads i would give to the hungry but not the money hungry land was taken away from the white farmers and given away why does the BLM bring that up campaign against starvation of their own people and stop the daylight robbery of their own people first so think before putting your hand in your pocket? jp

Re: A mess
John, you are so right there mate.
Africa, a wonderful country with nations that when under rule of other nations such as England, France, Belgium they were going fine.
Then independence came and the dictators took over, the countries began to fail, the people suddenly had no food or employment but the guy at the top did very well.
Build an army around him and he was set for life.
Some countries are better run by others at times.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: A mess
#4 Des, having worked in Africa (and other parts of the world) on AID programs, if they stopped fighting each other internally in each country and stopped buying arms/armaments they could feed themselves quite well and also have surpluses to export. As for those adverts saying this child has to walk miles to collect water, move your village, there is nothing where you are, move your village nearer the water, build a compound round part of the river to give animals restricted access to part of it, it can be done, but they won't do it, mainly because their witch doctor by any other name says the spirits will not like it, plus the fact it's easier for somebody else to do it. The Press talks about proud natives and traditions, bo**ocks, it's pure superstition at ground level and corruption at the top. Got the T-shirt, seen it on the ground, ships that got priority berthing were ships carrying armaments or consignments of liquor for Govt consignees, grain and fertiliser vessels were last in the queue and if your vessel with fertiliser was due to berth and a soviet ship with arms arrived, sorry Mr AID man, your ship will remain outside with all the other AID vessels.

#8 John, wasted enough years of my life out there mate, missed christmasses, my kids birthdays, confirmations, etc and for what some one shaking a tin in my face saying 'you look like you've had a nice holiday mister, give something for Ethiopia' they were told not to judge a book by its cover, or words to that affect!!
Talk to you when you get back! Rgds
