Re: China, Your views.
Think it was a Napoleon remark about China — “There lies a sleeping giant. Let him sleep! For when he wakes he will move the world”

ADDED:
Apparently, being reported here is that a region in the north of China is on alert after a herdsman was confirmed to have contracted bubonic plague.
It is unlikely that the plague will cause an epidemic, as it did in the 14th Century when it was called the Black Death and caused 50 million deaths across Asia, Europe and Africa.

Re: China, Your views.
China has much of the world in its grasp.
From money loans and the ability to flood the world markets with cheap items which most people now require there is little we can do.
No country should attempt to interfere with the workings and laws of another.
How would we feel if China began to question our laws and how we run the country?
China is a big boy now and China will do what China wants to.
Short of starting a physical war, and no one wants that, there is little we can do to change their actions.

Re: China, Your views.
In Dec. 70 years ago, we, the !st Mate, 2nd Mate, Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer and myself, (R/O), refused to sail the ship from Japan to China again after several trips there and being badly abused, awarded me a DR. Only 2nd Eng and myself got home early Jan. '51, the others stayed in H.K. Long bad, sad story, never to go there again. Fortunately, met many good mainland and H.K. people since and still know those that are here today. Be wise, Take Care. Cheers, Eric

Re: China, Your views.
Thanks Eric. Think I mentioned sometime ago about crews refusing to go to China for the same reason. And this was a long time more than 20 years ago. So must have gone on for some time. I was there’ over 46 years ago and as I said think we were the first British ship for some time , however it was the days off the end of the Red Guard but had heard the stories , probably seamen were the only ones who did as others ashore seemed oblivious to it, or just didn’t want to know, might upset their little lives. Pleased you have confirmed what a lot of us knew. Sorry was reading your 70 as 20. JS

Re: China, Your views.
The concept of imposing some form of sanctions on China will not work.
Too many countries are beholding to China for either supplies or funding.
As was the case with USA and China, sanctions or tariffs by one is then imposed by the other, nothing changes.
As said China will do what China wants to.

Re: China, Your views.
Ah ! C'mon, lets not start asking each other for 'where does it say that' or 'proof please' like they do on another site where recriminations and accusations are flying backwards and forwards like a regular bus service. Let's stay being normal and take each others word for things, unless someone is inclined to quote...…….. Volume xx, page xxiv, paragraph (iv) sub section (ii) if that is their wont. Myself I would just want to trust my fellow man, even though they may have heard wrong or mis-quoted which I am sure we are all guilty of unknowingly.
I can already hear the exocets coming in!
