I am sitting on hot Bricks at the moment (Not that there is any such antics going on in South Africa yet! ) but wonder if it will spread and what happens to the quite Famous and Marvellous Statue of Jan Van Riebeeck on the Foreshore in Adderley Street Cape Town ???

#24... A friend in need is a friend indeed Brian. To stand by someone is morally correct if he is a friend, to run away and do otherwise shows ones lack of moral backbone . You don’t have to condone whatever is said about him but you don’t run away and leave him for the wolves. Prince Andrew at the moment is suffering the pangs and arrows of outrageous foes and has committed no crime as such , apart from having a friend who thought differently than most. Sex between two consenting adults was never a crime , although it was at one time if they weren’t of different sexes. The only crime today that P A has committed or should say injustice to himself is agreeing to be interviewed Probably he thought in good faith. That was crass stupidity common sense should have told him otherwise. So is probably another one for No statues for you my lad , you’ve blotted your copy book.

Should the Red Indian in USA tear down any statue of Christopher Colombus?
Many countries would not be as rich or have such good welfare had not the British in many cases, or Portugal, Spain, or to some extent the Vikings not had the courage to go forth and find these countries.
They mainly did fort the benefit of their own country but in the process opened up those countries to in many instances far better living conditions which came into being over time.
To those who would attempt to destroy history I would ask one question, 'how do you wished to be remembered, as a useful member of society or some red necked rebel who had no concern for his fellow man'?

Christopher Columbus has already been torn down in 3 USA cities to pacify the Red Indians. Would these people really want to go back to roaming the plains, living in wigwams and chasing buffalo, somehow I don't think so.
People lived in different times then, would the Africans want to go back to tribal fighting, becoming slaves of other tribes (if they were lucky) as I mentioned in another thread whilst working on AID Programs I had European Africans on my team who were over joyous to be going back to their 'roots and brothers' after a week they couldn't wait to get back to Europe. No one can help the colour of their skin, be it white, black or many other shades, nor should they be penalised for it. The trouble with modern youth and some adults, including the well educated they relate everything in the past with modern day ease of communication and instant contact. The most dangerous thing 99.9% of them have done is get on a plane and go on holiday; they have never sailed into the unknown wondering whether or not they would return, voyages of discovery could take 5 to 10 years or even longer, getting a message back to your monarch could take years, it was a different age which seems to be beyond the understanding of many.
We have been accused of rape and pillage, depends how you look at it, explorers opened up countries and show the countries what wealth they had laying beneath their feet, coals, ores, silver, gold, they showed them what wealth they had above ground in fruits, spices etc, they introduced tea to Ceylon and India, plants which were never native to those countries, plants smuggled from China where if caught the sentence was a beheading, the tea now forming great revenues for Sri Lanka and India.
We used their ores and other minerals, which would have remained useless under the ground, maybe we exploited them, maybe we didn't, but we left them roads, railways, rolling stock, factories, docks, drydocks, engineering skills, dredged rivers, ship building facilities, nearly all of these so called exploited countries now have better facilities than the exploiters, at least the UK left everything in working order, unlike the Belgians when kicked out of Africa blew up and destroyed factories, railways, rolling stock etc, and said well if you want all this, build your own, you're not using ours. How many protests or statutes have you seen torn down in Belgium.

How long must we tolorate the defacing of our treasured monuments?. A far as I am concerned enough is enough, now that the King Robert the Bruce Monument at the battle of Bannockburn site has been sprayed with Black Lives Matter graffiti indicating he was a racist king. Unfortunately it looks like the younger generation of this country have no knowledge of our history.

But by the size of most of their brains it won’t make much difference to themselves . They are like the hyenas they live on the rotten corpses of their betters . JS
