Re: Statues
Victoria, once again you are correct.
But since man walked on the face of this planet there has been discrimination, racial intolerance and haltered of the other man because he has want you want, reason for war!
But one only has to look around the world today to see that slavery still exists in some countries, may only be a sweat shop, but it is still there.
Look at the Mid East, Sunni and Sheer fighting each other, or in India where there are the untouchables. Does any one of sound mind really think that will change.
JC was crucified because his teaching some though posed a threat to them, Ghengis Khan ruled much of the East for years, hardly a kind man.
But then we had Yugoslavia, a mixture of nations brought together by one man, he died and suddenly there is ethnic cleansing going on, is that not a form of discrimination?
Many smaller nations in Africa have a system of discrimination much based on tribal beliefs.
So tear down the statues, rip up the books, ban the movies and TV shows, but it will change very little, if anything.

Re: Statues
When someone has died they cannot answer back and defend themselves from any accusation.
Dead Men tell no tales, So anyone can be accused of anything./
We had a friend, When he was alive he was the greatest, Anne knew him since 66 years ago, I first met him 26 years ago , we sailed with him several times on the QE2 on World Cruises, a good friend of the Captain, a very popular man.
He raised 40 Million Pounds for charities, running Marathons. etc.
Then he died. ……..
1,500 women said he had assaulted them and each received £30,000
He was Not on a position to deny it, or defend himself. He was Dead,.
Why after 1,500 claims was he Not accused when alive,??
£30,000 for an accusation is easy money.
HIS NAME ……
Jimmy Savile.

Sticking more to the thread on statues though the headstone on his grave was removed and broken up at his family's request.

Greyfriers Bobby may be next... can you imagine the trauma cats must feel every time they walk past?
Attachment 30257
Greyfriars Bobby (May 4, 1855 – January 14, 1872) was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he died himself on 14 January 1872. The story continues to be well known in Scotland, through several books and films. A prominent commemorative statue and nearby graves are a tourist attraction.

Re: Statues
Another infamous statue in Scotland is that of the Duke of Sutherland. He is closely associated with the Highland Clearances. It stands above Golspie causing much controversy.

Re: Statues
How about the statue outside the old Vindicatrix school put up by ex Vindi boys. Should that be pulled down? We were hungry, verbally abused if we didn't learn our knots and splices and sailing instructions, never mind that the majority remember it with affection, we could have one man who hated it; and he counts!!!
