Canola is a crop used to make margarine and other such substances.
I think in Europe and UK it is known as Rape seed.

What’s the Difference Between Canola and Rapeseed?

People often get confused about the difference between canola oil and rapeseed oil. These two plant-based cooking oils, however, are different.

Both canola and rapeseed belong to the cabbage or mustard family. The plants’ flowers both have that characteristic bright yellow colour, and you get oil from both of the seeds by crushing the plants.

That said, they have a couple key genetic differences. Canola was created through plant-breeding in order to get rid of two undesirable components of rapeseed.

Rapeseed oil and canola oil also get mixed up because they can be labeled incorrectly outside of Canada and the United States.

In the 1970s canola was created through traditional plant cross-breeding by removing two things found in the rapeseed plant: glucosinolates and erucic acid. Erucic acid was removed because it was believed to be inedible or toxic in high doses. The newly developed plant was renamed “canola” – a combination of “Canadian” and “Oil” (or ola) to make this difference apparent.

By definition, if a seed is labeled “canola” it has to have less than 30 micromoles of glucosinolates and less than 2% of erucic acid.

Well what a very nice cut and paste.

The name of Canola was adopted here in Oz as the term Rape was not acceptable to the general public.

It has nothing to do with the different types of crops and it was allowed by the Canadian Oil company who owned it.

Oil Seed rape is one of the fastest growing plants in the world ,sown in Autumn in the UK and survives winter no problem ,come spring when the weather warms up it grows at the rate of a foot a week, hay fever sufferers hate it because of its high content in pollen ,making it a real benefit to insect life that is now sadly lacking in the UK.

Excuse my ignorance but what does the term paste refer to?

Adding further relevant, more bona fide information / current evidence

and adding links to such -

    to back up otherwise possible
    fake news / hearsay.

    Generally aiding and most important
    adding a traceable source.

Usually, a computer action that allows
    copy of data and facts.

Aids prevention of spoof and fake news, hearsay and
    similar.

We are having the worst drought on record here, and as it is between Climate change and farming I thought I would put this on here. The Darling river that runs from Queensland to South Australia [Called the Barking river by Aboriginals] has dried up; millions of fish dead, first time in our history. It is the life's blood for many Aboriginal tribes who rely on it for water ,Fish etc. Yesterday they interviewed the tribal heads and they said there is no time in their history of 40,000 years that the Barking has dried up. Climate maybe? They say that it is big Companies pumping out and selling the water to the farmers, something the Govt will have to stop if the outback country of N.S.W is to survive. Most of the water is used on Cotton crops; which use huge amounts, another imported crop that should not have been allowed into Australia.

What is it with you that you will not accept the word of a member without such remarks.
The change of name came about many, many years ago long before any one of us had ever heard of the stuff.
