    Default Batteries for all?

There is a conversation taking place here in Oz about the benefits of clean renewable energy and the benefits of it.
Our late PM, not sure who he is, is his problem, says that battery storage is the way to go.

But batteries rely on Lithium to work and there is a limited amount globally.

Adelaide in South Australia has a very large battery in the city center, can supply the whole city for 2 hours and 8 minutes, it cost an alleged $ 10 million to build.

But batteries require factories to produce them, and Coper wire which has to be mined and processed, is that clean energy?

For a city the size of London the batteries would need to be almost half the size of the city, and where do you store them?

Solar and Wind are fine, at the time of use, but are not always available when needed, Solar panels on my roof for some reason will not work at night.
The local wind farm will not y work when the summer Northerlies at over 45 knots blows, just at the time you need the power for the air conditioners.

There must be a back up system available to ensure supply is constant.
If Hydrogen cars can be made and are now running, along with a Hydrogen powered train in UK ,then maybe that is the way of the future, not batteries.

It was also announced yesterday that driverless vehicle are at least 20 years away as the infrastructure will take that long to install.

The future will be made up of all manner of systems different to any we have known, ut are the scientists and engineers attempting too many potential change sat one time when all have problems currently?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    HI John.
I know a few politicians that need a few batteries in a place they wouldn't like; to help them concentrate on the water problems we have, we do not have a problem with power, as if push comes to shove we have enough coal until the planet expires, which could be sooner rather than later.
    Cheers Des

Know what you mean Des, was asked the other day on a medical form if I had any allergies.

Put down two, Mother in law, and Politicians as they give me the back yard trots.

On BBC news last night it was discussing greenhouse gasses.
We Al know about Co2, but all these Wind turbines are not as good as claimed.
There are more substations used in transforming the power, each substations is releasing a dangerous green house gas that is a thousand times more potent than Co2.
    Vic
Unfortunately can't remember name of the gas

The gas used in high voltage substations is SULFUR HEXAFLUORIDE.

DEs, you would not read about it but here in Victoria the polis have just has a wage rise.
They are only granting 2% to Fire, Nurse, Ambos, Police and gov employees.
But they have been awarded a 12% increase.
Awarded by an independent body who did at some stage ask the Polis how much they thought they were worth???????
Our State premier is now the highest paid at some $480,000 per year.
