He is well and does look in occasionally.

Saturday today 6th July 2019 is 31st Anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster.

THE CREW CHANGE.

They left their homes at the end of June,
Saying goodbye, see you soon,
Unbeknown when they parted that day,
Their lives would change in a harsh way,
Sixth of July, the night lives were lost,
In fire and smoke and in explosions tossed,
The sea beneath the Piper, the oil rig of doom,
Was filled with death and solitary gloom,
An empty space in each man's home,
For a place beneath the brinery foam,
Loved ones waited to lay them to rest,
Away from their watery wooden chests,
Remember how they left to toil,
Some for gas, others for oil,
Now forever they will never leave one's side,
For now with 'God' they must abide,
Then they will look down, from up above,
Still watching over the ones they love.

Of course one must never forget the total figure of those who perished includes the the two Merchant Navy seamen who perished on the FRC from the standby vessel 'Sandhaven'. Both men were awarded Posthumous George Medals for bravery.
In all, seven George Medals were awarded to British Merchant Navy seamen for bravery.
One was awarded to the survivor of the FRC from the 'Sandhaven', the other four being awarded to crewmembers of the standby vessel the 'Silver Pit'.

The Piper Alpha George Medal awarded to James Clark who was a crewmember on the standby vessel 'Silver Pit' was sold at auction in 1992. It was later bought at Glendinning's Auctions in London by a dealer on behalf of Aberdeen Art Gallery. The Gallery closed in 2015 and is expected to reopen sometime this year. It appears the Gallery, Aberdeen Maritime Museum and others are all part of a group working together.
