    No doubt there are many more such stories of events during the war that did not go as planned.

    Maybe one day we may find out about them, but embarasment may prevent such for a few more years yet.

    It's the lesser-known D-Day, one launched two months after the Normandy landings on the other side of France, with French forces this time playing a premier role.

    Hi Fouro. Here is one of those coincidences, just been watching rerun of The World At War on Ch.25 YESTERDAY. They landed to no opposition the Germans had already moved out.
    Wynford Vaughan Thomas the war correspondent described it as surreal. " As we walked up the beach a Frenchman carrying a tray with Champagne and glasses approched and commented "I think you are rather late"" This gave rise to It being called The Champagne Campaign.
