Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Have been sitting watching it burn on the TV for about the last 2 hours and still feeling very sad at the loss of such a magnificent and historic structure that is nigh on impossible to replace.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Via: The RBL Paris Branch:
The RBL Paris Branch is shocked to see the fire in Notre Dame Cathedral. We have been holding Remembrance Services every year in the Cathedral since 1919. Our thoughts go out to the Cathedral Staff, the Archbishop of Paris, and the firefighters. This is so upsetting to see.
I have worked closely with the Paris branch and assisted to ensure initially the red ensign and then an actual
MN Standard were presented and took part in the services at Notre Dame and other events.
Sad day.
Keith.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Notre Dame was one of many cathedrals and churches built in France by the Templars.
There is a statue of Joan of Arc dating back to the 15th century inside the cathedral erected by Templars who escaped from being imprisoned and got rid off.

Fouro.

Caroline Clopet
Oh Our Lady of Notre Dame de Paris,
You have welcomed and embraced Us
Into your Arms for 100 years.
Since the End of World War I.
You have been home to our Ceremonies of Remembrance
Where we have cried for our Dead
You have been our Cathedral
In times of Need & Remembrance since 1919
You are a part of Us, and have always been there
To comfort our brave Soldiers and Members
For all those years, and for those before us,
Since a thousand years.
And Today, We Cry for You, Our Cathedral
Our beloved Lady of Notre Dame de Paris
Such a Beautiful Cathedral, with a timeless soul
Caroline Clopet, RBL Paris Branch

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Really sad to see such a lovely cathedral destroyed by fire after surviving for 850 years, we've had our own
near disasters with York Minster and Windsor Castle but thankfully they were caught in time. John Collier

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
The number of incidents where buildings being renovated the go up in flames is a concern.
This cathedral is not just for France, but is seen by so many as apart of history there for all.
Similar with the Vatican, Canterbury Cathedral and so many others.
To lose such an identity is to lose part of our history.
It can be restored, man now ahs the knowledge to do so and the technology for it.
But finding stone masons and carpenters who know how to reassemble such may well prove to be a hard task.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
