Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Latest is that many of the precious artifacts have been saved, some had been removed prior to the fire whilst many more were removed by a chain of volunteers whilst the fire rated in the roof. Pictures of the interior show that the stone vaulted ceiling is intact and even some of the stained glass windows have survived. The fire destroyed the wooden roof over the vaulted ceiling along with the famous spire, which appears to have been a wooden structure.
Fund to pay for restoration has been set up and two french billionaire's have already pledged 300 million euros between them.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Apparently, no restoration work had started in Notre Dame. There were NO "hot" areas or electrics that were alight....!!!! Apparently there was NO reason that the spire could have caught fire accidentally.....!!! That leaves one to wonder.......
Précision sur l’incendie de Notre Dame.
Following different questions and testimonies, it seems useful to me to bring this info: the restoration work cleanly had not yet started, only scaffolding was being assembled. No welding and no hot point possible, so (Source: Architect in chief of historical monuments, responsible for the restoration of the arrow, Philippe Villeneuve).

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
The organist was actually playing at the time the fire alarms went off. Fortunately the main structure including some of its windows, have survived mainly intact.
The French President says he wants it restoration to be completed within 5 years, which seems an incredibly short time given the size of the task.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Believe it took two hundred years to build, twenty minutes to burn down, survived two world wars and countless others, probably why it was such a shock to see a lot of it destroyed, but the bulk of it survived, one billionaire has promised one billion EU to rebuild, don't know it that is true there will be many stories abounding. They found no one was to blame, I thought at least the tea boy would have been charged.

The restoration that was going on at the time if the fire was scheduled to last for about ten years.
Now the president wants to rebuild in five?
Rebuilding can, and will, be done but sourcing the same type of timber may prove to be a bit of a problem.
Also the crafting to the same shape may also present some degree of difficulty as most of the skill used to build it are long gone.

The statue of Joan of Arc portrays her with some indications of her own Templar affiliations. This iconic statue also shows her with a distinctly proper Templar sword, in the original 12th century form, which is markedly different from the French swords used during her time. Her battle flag is mounted on the Lance in a manner reflecting the Agnus Dei seal of the Templar Grand Mastery. There is also a "money pouch" hanging from her belt which is an iconic Templar symbol of her status as a sponsoring patron saint of the Apostles.
The Notre Dame statue "proves" that surviving 15th century Knights of the Templar Order themselves considered Joan of Arc to be a Magdalene figure and a real Templar warrior-priestess.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Hopefully Notre Dame will be rebuilt as promised by president Macron, there is a lot of emotion involved
right now, the experts will need to access the stone work once the debris is cleared to ascertain the
condition and what needs to be done before any time scale promises can be made. Tragically so much
history has been destroyed that can never be replicated, it seems that already Architects from around the
world are being asked to submit design for a new spire, and Macron has said the Cathedral will be more
beautiful when it's done, hope this is not just the words of an unpopular president trying to gain favour.
Notre Dame was already crumbling before the devastating fire so five years seems a very optimistic
timescale, "Time will tell" John Collier

Looks like the nutters are starting to surface as Police have arrested a man carrying two cans of petrol and lighters who entered St Patrick's Cathedral in New York.

More than twenty years since last there. I have now found some photos taken then. The French may not always seem magnanimous but in this case they are. I hope it survived the fire.
Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Just to show how easy it is for a fire to destroy something. I worked for twelve months on a new freezing works lambing floor in Auckland, came the week we were to finish and have the grand opening, some welders were working late; a spark went down between the floor and the wall the whole floor burnt out that night. Back on the tools.
