In the end we will need to properly address the population size that this planet can comfortably afford. Our species is profligate.
Think that maybe the answer, 2 in 2 out maybe even more stringent methods could be adopted. The way the population is multipyling something will have to give for sure.

Some years ago a man in UK invented the 'smart meter' for use in house. No need for a meter reader.
The UK was not interested so he sold the concept to Australian companies.
Now the UK, having seen how they work, is using them.

Like so many other concepts they will take off in time.
The electric vehicle is such. just as the Methane /gas car will in time.
Here in Oz we have an abundance of Methane in our land fill as the contents decomposes. Some have already been tapped and the gas in use to fire power stations.
Using such gas sounds a far better concept as it is readily available from all decomposing matter.

Here In Oz we had LPG for use in cars, big industry, then the gov put anew tax on gas and that was the end of it.
Still around but in ever decreasing numbers, yet it is cleaner than petrol.

An electric vehicle requires ten times the amount of copper as a normal one, all has to be mined so more Co2 will be emitted.

As said so many times, take the politics out of the subject and look at it objectively and you may get afar batter response.

People such as I who care to look beyond the scare mongering will never believe the 'Climate Change' theory as long as scare tactics are used.
We here in Oz are in the middle of an erection campaign where both Labor and the Greens are using it as a weapon to gain votes.
Maybe if some realistic figures were put out, not the cobbled together ones in use now, we may see things in a different light.

Last October in Vienna a conference of some 7,000 scientist was held.
The question, 'Do you think climate change is real'?

    50% said no
25%, all gov employed scientist said yes
15% said something occurred in the 20th century but we are over it now.
The remainder had no definte opinion.

That is where the problem stems from, no concensus of opinion on the subject.

Not so smart meters should be the title, or should that go to the plonkers who initiated the system. We are urged to switch to smart meters and we are also urged to shop around for energy supply deals. Only problem is, the "smart" meters are not compatible with all energy suppliers, so are virtually useless if you change.
They are promoted as free but that is not the case, it is included in the costs of your energy (info from money saving expert).
So where is the benefit. They are also not compatible with solar panels, none of the companies I have spoken with can confirm that they are compatible if you have solar panels fitted,

Rodders, it was something that came up on the local talk back radio.
Two politicians and a local scientist were discussing the matter, got a bit heated in the end.

No worries with them here in Oz. No charge for fitting and they work very well with solar, I have 14 panels and the system works well.

John, over here it will probably take another 10 years for them to sort it out. I will continue with reading the old meters for now.
Coincidentally I just got my 1st quarter payment (Jan - April) for solar transmitted to the grid, £38, not too bad considering I used a fair proportion directly. Yesterday was quite dull with heavy rain all day and it was turning out 1kw (14 panels, 3.9 kw at max output) so that would cover the base load for the house for at least 8 hours.

Johno, could not find any convention or international meeting of scientists even vaguely related to the subject of global warming in Vienna.
However, there was a meeting in Edmonton, Canada, the IPCC, they had a vote:

"...20 [scientists] that disagree with the accuracy of the IPCC climate position.
14 disagree that climate warming causes global warming.
5 believe global warming will have few negative consequences.

The remaining 97% [scientists] do believe there is global warming and it is caused by the actions of man and that steps should be taken immediately to hold todays position and reverse it back...."

    I posted this on Nov 29 2018.
