That has just cheered me up Terry.
I should have arrived in San Diego California today, instead I am stuck in the polluted air of Boltonistan.

    Hi John.
Don't know if it has anything to do with climate change, but have you noticed that his eyes are closing more everytime he speaks, he may be turning into a Chinese.

    HI Jim.
You are right on, the Star fish that is helping destroy the Barrier reef was brought here by ships, don't know if it was ballast or other means but I think mankind has been instrumental in helping things along, even unwittingly.

Star fish of many kinds in the bay here in Melbourne.
Many come south on the ships stuck to the bulkheads and they cause so many problems to local fish.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I guess what I was told is wrong, apparently as told to me
was that star fish could not have made the trip unaided
because currents do not carry them and young star fish
swimming near the surface, were probably sucked up with
tonnes of water, used as ballast.

#313. Brian the last time I was up the Great Lakes was in 1969 The first time was on a general cargo ship with all the general arrangements of ordinary winches and toilet discharges etc. in other words justa normal ship of the day. However even in that time the Great Lakes would not allow any discharge of excrement overboard or any other residue , the lakes were pure fresh water. All the toilets had to be locked up etc. etc. as regards the wire moorings for the locks had to go through Derrick heel blocks and wires used to part left right and centre if didn’t have experienced winch drivers , in other words it was load of work getting up and own the seaway. We had to have chemical toilets hired from the shore which all worked off a12 volt battery and were good for a hundred goes.
The bext time up there was a ship properly fitted out with a sludge tank and proper tension winches so was a piece of pee. I wonder if the rules up there are still strict and the Lakes still pure. Cheers JS

My God John, I shudder to think of all that crew of yours having to use a 12volt battery just to go to the toilet. What the hell was the food like?
