China and India buy almost 100% of the coal they require from Oz.
Two reasons, one being we are the nearest to them, secondly the quality of the coal.
It has been rated as some of the cleanest there is and the very best for coking, so there is little chance of them changing.

But they have both developed a clean coal technology along with Japan and South Korea, if they can do it so can others.

But a point of interest from a friend of mine in USA who has links to NASA.
according to him the way Co2 levels in the atmosphere are measured is not that accurate.

Readings are taken over large cities, but none taken over some of the open regions such as Georgia, Uzbecistan and a few other such places.

But that may not give the readings some want.

He main monitoring station for Co2 is on top of a volcano in Hawia (spelling).
There are very few monitoring stations in the Southern Hemisphere.
Majority of stations are in large towns/cities which distorts the figures.

Today we had a glimpse of the future for UK from foreign coresspondant on the radio.
He went on to explain the latest from BoJo as to the future of combustion engines and gas for heating homes and water supply.

Sounds good until you take a close look at it, is this a real attempt to reduce emissions or rather some form of social engineering and a way to bring the oil barons down?

All electric vehicles is a possibility, but what will it solve? Copper ten times as much must be mined along with lead and Rare earths.
How will they be recharged as I know there are thousands of houses without a garage, extension leads across the side walk, OHS will have a filed day with that one.
Then the possibility of a maximum 400 klm range, how far will that take you?

Then if no combustion engines how will earth moving and other similar equipment work?
The cost tot the community of such change, whilst not against change this is a bit drastic in one hit.

Then the matter of heating homes with a 'heat bank' what ever that may be, no ore gas and the conversion cost estimated at about GBP 10,000 per house to be met by the owner!!!!!
So only electric to cook with, but how do you increase supply to meet the demand?

Solar will not be considered because there is insufficient sunlight to justify the cost, and wind farms are finding it hard to find new sites where there is consistent wind, not gales then nothing.

The solution, a possible five new nuclear power plants.

Change if often driven by either the need, a new concept, a better way to do it, or by those who see the future of any change making them very rich.

The time frame of 15 years to finish making combustion vehicles is a bit tight.
Tesla say it will take until 2040 to produce some 300 million of the electric ones, but that is dependent of being able to build a factory in Germany which at present is unlikely.
He wants top clear about 1,000 hectares of native forest to do so, and take over some of the water rights there. The people say no, and his attempt is a bit hypocritical, kill off forsest to produce electric cars?

So from this I have concluded the following.

By 2070 all combustions engines will be gone, all gas will be gone.
You will all be driving around in a horse and cart and rubbing two Boy Scouts together to light a fire for heating and cooking.

How the heck will those bloody things last. Oil's a lot more money than hay, and them wheels, fifty time more expensive than good old horse shoes and they've got some stupid idiot walking in front of them waiving a flag so you can get out of the way.

The minimum wind speed for wind turbine to generate power is 5 m.p.h.. However there are wind turbines that can generate electricity at 2 m.p.h. These are built in regions that historically have low wind speeds.

A valid point was raised the other day by one scientist who does not believe in 'Man made' climate change, he claims it is a natural part of the earths cycle.
But he said using the term climate change is misleading as climates do not change, temperate, tropical, arid, arctic will still remain.
They are regional where as weather patterns are local and he says this is what is actually changing.

Climates may develop differently in some parts of the globe but they still remain what they are.

He was interviewed by an announcer who claims electric vehicles are rubbish and have a very short life cycle, Hydrogen will replace them.

I can understand to a certain way the variance in local climates but what worries me the most, is the melting ice caps. Surely this is not a natural change but a man made one.

Hi Chris,
On TV they only show the Ice in Summer with 24 hours of sunshine, Never show it in January with 24 hours of darkness and temperatures below minus 70.
I aw this in the Antarctic and talk to a BAS man, In the Antarctic there are many volcanoes and we were swimming surrounded by ice due to the sea being warm from the caldera of the volcano, this was in Desolation Island.
The Volcanoes do have an effect in melting ice. Seeing Ice break off the Glaciers is a natural event, Ice inches its way down hill very slowly and when it gets to the sea with no land underneath it snaps off. and creates an ice berg.
