Re: Global Warming
In the spring of 1980 Mount Etna volcano erupted in Washington state, I remember wondering about the possible impact on the weather, here, in Ontario,
you could see a disturbance in the sky, looked like a huge thundercloud which seemed to remain stationary for about a week, but had an unnatural look about it,
after some research I found that: volcanic ash falls rapidly from the stratosphere, most of it is removed within weeks and has little impact on climate change,
but volcanic gases like sulphur dioxide can cause global cooling, volcanic carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, can promote global warming.
Nothing wrong with us trying to clean up our atmosphere, but like you say Captain, (#135), not by scare tactics or carbon taxes, we can make all the changes we want
but all it takes is one natural event and the whole thing goes to pot.

Re: Global Warming
Who is also to say that these frequent eruptions of volcanoes etc. are not promoted by underground so called technology in the search for more intelligence on nuclear explosions and the likes. Never mind the likes of North Korea who is always the fall guy, what about France in the Pacific not so long back. Other countries to boot no doubt. They all shout loud and hard about so called Climate Change , how about looking in their own backyard, or in some cases others backyards. JWS.

Re: Global Warming
Makes one wonder what they are trying to do with that machine under the Swiss alps, though I must admit our weather over the last twelve months has been what i would call normal; except for the increased heat over the summer months, but I don't think as hot as the Persian gulf in mid summer in the 50s, now its back to mild and rain with Autumn arriving.

Re: Global Warming
That imposed on Joe public will make a difference, well a little difference.
Banning trains, planes and automobiles would be a better start point,
WofMD, rockets are not helpful. The space race is about finding a safe
place for a few or them not you.
Did you know of the existence of nuclear bunkers years ago ? where
they were ? Any possibility you would have had been allowed access.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

Re: Global Warming
#144.... Keith if you had had the privilege of doing the MN defence course in 1962, it would have given you a better idea of the sequence of events that was expected to unfurl on the outbreak of nuclear war, and you are correct there was not. A place reserved for you in a fall out shelter. Neither would there be today either I suspect. Priority’s were given mainly to those who had caused the war in the first place. Hope you have a sturdy kitchen table. Cheers JS

Re: Global Warming
Rob, we had a scientist, who does not believe in GW, on the radio the other day.
He listed all the global events over centuries that have occurred.
In the middle ages there was an ice age of types where for almost 100 years the earth was very cold.
In the time of Henry 8 the Thames froze over so hard that Oxen were roasted on there.
There is evidence plenty of similar weather patterns over the centuries, and that is what the current situation is in Oz, extreme weather patterns.
Victoria 1998 Melbourne had four consecutive days over 40, this summer we had just one, but of course the 'Greens' and most of the Labor party will use any bit of info, no matter how small to push their case.
But as to the New York situation, Sweden has been doing that for the past ten years or so.
Here we are complaining because we are putting all or rubbish into land fill
But a recent survey has found that one in three 'Greens' are just as stupid as the other two.
But look around the globe, how many countries are serious about this matter?
Yes some of the western world is, but look at some in the mid east, Countries such as Afghanistan and other such nations.
They are in such a mess that it will take many generations before they will even begin to consider it.
Take the politics out of the CC and you will find there is little left to concern us.
Just as an aside the climate of the UK is classified as temperate, hot and cold, wet and dry. Will it suddenly become tropical if all changes??

Re: Global Warming
Today we had the 'children' march as I understand they did in other countries as well, all about CC.
Ours here were driven by the Unions and the 'Greens' and in many instances supported by the Labor premiers.
I have no problem with such, it is good to see the up and coming generations taking note of modern issues.
But on this one I fear they have in many instances been a little brain washed by some of the extremists.
Today one of the 'Green' members of state parliament resigned from it and the 'Green' Party
Her reason,
'They are nothing more than a narsistic, self serving, inward looking, self appointed cult, more concerned with global domination rather than global warming.

Re: Global Warming
This year the winter snow storms in Greenland have been replaced by winter rainstorms which are actually washing away the tops of the glaciers by melting them down
. We might have the world still evolving around coal fired power stations without reasonable exhaust control you never actually get rid of the problem

Re: Global Warming
Scientist are now only beginnng to research he biggest source of influence on the earths climate - the Sun.
Climate change scientists have ignored the effect that the changing conditions on th sun can govern our climate change.
A group of scientist are trying to establish a link between the suns increaing solar activity and earths climtate.
