####that brought back old times ....somehow it all looked slow motion compared to todays world ....and things seemed more solid than todays rush ......we still have a milkround in our village but use the supermarket .....as the milky in the village is not as reliable as the old milkies like boxer ..... ......its strange when i retired 18 years ago we got to deliveries of mail .....one at about 8 and one about 12...we now get one sometimes at one oclock.....and never a delivery on wednesday ...thanks for that bill it was interesting ....cappy

When i was kid living in very rural Hampshire, the milk was brought round the village by a guy, who happened to lodge with M and D , he worked on the farm and his job every morning was on a 3 wheel bike, same as the old ice cream bikes, with a box on the front and milk churn in the box, and people came out with special sized milk jugs as i recall. This was war years, and also remember the Italian POWs working in the village, i still go to that village, Hawkley, on the odd occasion, and the pub is much the same as it was then. I remember the pub well, because Mum would send me up there to rake my old fella out for his grub, kt

###you have brought back a memory there keith ...there was a guy in shields who had a horse and trap ...with a milk churn aboard....he would come round during the day with a ladle and fill your jug ...he always got business here and there....cappy

I am a mere pup compared to some of you guys but even as a kid I remember the Bread man. I remember there were 3 breadmen used do our street. McWaters, Inglis and Ormo. I used to help Freddy the baker. He would tell me who got what in the street and I would do the delivery, while he was having a quick cup of tea with Mrs Cummings. He used to tell me to sit in the van when I was finished doing the deliveries and wait on him to finish his tea. It must have been a very big cup!!! Mrs Cummings had 3 children 1 a red head, 1 a blond and the 3rd one had nearly black hair. When I was a teenager I used to go out with the redhead Angela, I think she took after her mother as she liked a cup of tea!!!!
