Terry, we all joke about the mother in law but when it comes to it in situations such as this you then come to understand how good they really are.
I fully understand what you ae going through having been through it with my dad and a brother in law.
Sitting by the phone waiting for that call, in the hope it will see the end to the misery.
My dad was given a massive dose of Morphine, just 15 minutes was all it took.


But Terry we hang in there in the vain hope that maybe a miracle will occur and things will improve, but in our heart of hearts know it will not.

Terry, you Christian believes will carry you and your family through this and for your families sake I hope the end is quick and peaceful.

One comfort is you are home with your wife to support her.

I was away at sea when my Mother in Law died , I got a hard time, she had to do all the funeral arrangements alone. "Where were you when I needed you, " was all I got when I returned home,
12 months later her father died, again all I got was "Where were you when I needed you",
My Dad died when I was away at sea, never had chance to say good bye he was fit and healthy when I sailed, and my Mother also died when I was away at sea,
So of all four parents I never saw one of them before or went to any of their Funerals.

Being away at sea when a member of the family dies is the worst thing, just a telegram off Sparky, "Dad has died" and that is it, not knowing what is happening at home, have to wait a couple of months or so before you get home,
All the shock and sadness you have, you are on your own and still have to carry on working , doing your watches etc.

So sorry to hear about your Mum in Law Terry. Life can be very hard at times - my own Mum died of dementia she was 80. Give your dear wife all the support she needs right now Terry and be there for her, which I know you will.

Ditto mate we are thinking of you downunder here. As for those anus wipes that use religion to justify their own views and stop this becoming legal I just wonder when the time comes if they will then understand what misery they have put everyone through. I often talk about this with my doctor and he see my point of view. If this is illigal then leaves me no choice but to commit sucicide. The problem with that is? What state will I be in if I do it wrong and end worse of. This should be addressed as I often wonder how many cases are in hospitals and such like that are just vegatables simply because of botched attempts to end ones life. While on the subject here is something else to think on. If I was able to obtain a pill or lotion that would end life for me I reckon that it would make it possible to extend my life simply because I could wake up each morning and think to myself. I think I will prolong this life another day because I have the means at hand to end it.

Death to different people means different things and probably everyone has different views on the subject. As one gets older and hopefully wiser one learns to accept as inevitable. What I.could never really understand was a young healthy person taking their own life , their brain must have been at odds with everything we consider normal. Then you have the failed suicides which if one was determined to do, find it hard to believe fail on doing so, In a lot of cases is to attract attention ,and another failure in the persons reasoning. For anyone who has faced death and expected seconds to live and survived , will have learned things about themselves they never knew . One of the biggest problems will be the after effects and questions to themselvesof why they survived whilst others died. This will haunt them unless they can convince themselves of an acceptable answer. My immediate answer to voluntary Euthanasia would be it’s a cowards way out, but that is an immediate response and not totally true, if you think about it you can’t stop someone bent on killing themselves if they want no matter how many laws you make, so someone unable to do it themselves and it is their choice and being of sane mind , it is their decision and right to choose. When we are on the brink of death oneself by my own experience and this will differ person to person I found that it appeared quite acceptable at the time and accepted the fact. The individuals beliefs will also play a big part in a persons last actions. As to beliefs the human bomb adapted by terrorists is a good example what people will do for their beliefs misguided or not. All in all I would vote for the law to remain as it is. Euthanasia is practiced and has been for years by compliant doctors by in some cases a simple overdose of morphine and nothing has been said. It is only when the media get a hold of someone’s statement and blow it up to something bigger to make a headline and cause controversy that the trouble starts.JS

That is the problem when they commit suicide, years ago the verdict would be that the balance of their minds was disturbed.


To commit suicide I sometimes think takes more courage than not to, but for what ever reason so many do.
