Yes John, still get money out of the machines. Interesting article in D.M. this week about buying items abroad with your cards. When paying for the items, the card gives the options ofmlocal currency or your home based currency.Quote:

Regarding cyber attacks, our bank has had some electronic hiccups recently but no hacking. Still caused confusion as some direct debits had been taken out twice.TSB bank is still reeling from its latest cock up, yet yesterday when we were in our local Morrisons buying yogurts at 10 for £4, the check out girl had to scan each one individually as we had brought a variety of flavours and the till told the store wharehouse exactly how many of each flavour had been sold in order that the shelves could be refilled and more ordered from central stores, maybe the banks should just use supermarkets software.

I think Chris is absolutely correct when he says 'it had to happen'. I'm sure many of us have long pondered the thought that the wonderment of the cyberworld would one day come back and bite us on the a--e. With that in mind, I recently decided to put my cash in a tin-can and bury it in the back garden. However, it must be said that replenishing my wallet has sometimes been a messy, arduous business, especially on a dark, rainy, night, when seeking the benefit of optimium security (somehow, I knew that old miner's helmet would come in handy one day). Unfortunately, I'm now left with a dilemma. My neighbour's dog (a nice little thing) has recently 'sussed me out' and I'm terrified he'll dig up the tin and make an unauthorised cash withdrawal. Do you think I should shoot the dog or am I being paranoid ? Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

We were a Tesco supplier John A , one through the till order a replacement is simple , but somewhere they adjust for day of the week , time of the year , predicted weather , national and local events ect , they didn't get it right all the time

I don't understand how this failure has happened. When I worked for IBM, Warwick at their Data centre, in the seventies, there was a dedicated computer that dealt with Visa and Bank transfers, the main machine was backed up with a standby computer.
At Midnight or just after all the data was uploaded from all the external servers etc. and the inter bank transfers and credit transfers took place without a hitch.
The system was full proof, how things have changed.

I failed to understand our hardware failure in one individual piece of kit has caused the system to fail it seems absolutely crazy for all the internal systems we had in a small company everything had a backup disc all the hardware had backup so I really don't follow what happened with the company the size of visa my nasty suspicious mind thinks they had some kind of cyber attack and they don't want to tell us
