    Default I have a Plight.................

    Hi everybody,

This is a long shot but maybe somebody out there can help me with my plight. The person I am searching for is believed to have come from the Liverpool area and has a good possibility of Irish links. Unfortunately I do not know this mans name but I have a definite time-line of his Merchant Navy ship being docked in Fowey in Cornwall at or around March/April of 1962. Even the name of the ship would be of help as it gives me something to go on.

This person is possibly of around the 75 - 80 yrs of age now.

Any snippet of information would be greatly appreciated in this search.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post and I hope to talk to some of you soon.

    Many thanks

    Beverley McNamara

Thank you for your response, Cappy, however as I have stressed, I have very little information to go on other than that the ship was docked in Fowey on or around March/April of 1962.
Even the name of the ship would be something to go on and whilst I appreciate that some people may not want to be found, this means a great deal to me. I feel I cannot lay myself open at the moment because I have had no positive feedback, as yet. My intentions are purely from the heart and I am not out to cause conflict in any way, I am just looking for information.

    Many thanks

Beverley if the person you are looking for has the same name as you McNamara I am sure someone who sailed with would remember. As soon as I saw the surname it brought back memoriies of my father every New Year’s Eve that being one of his repotoire of songs among others, “ oh my name is McManara I’m the leader of the band” , no doubt he would have got a matching nickname. If the person you are looking for has the same name as yourself it would be a good start. Regards JWS.

    Ref: j.sabourn

McNamara is my married name, the name of the person I am seeking, I know not of! I know this is a needle in a haystack but I feel I have to try every avenue possible as this means so much to me.

So, to reiterate the point I made in my first thread, I do not know the name of the man/merchant seaman I am seeking.

By the way, my husbands dad did have a nickname and it was "Paddy" as you can imagine why.

Many thanks for replying to my plight.

Beverley, have you contacted the local Port Authorities / Harbour Commission / Customs etc.

They may help or point you in the right direction.

Of note during 1962 would be the Visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

    Keith.

    Hi Keith,

Brilliant. That is something I can work with.

Thank you so much for the information especially about the RYB.

I will certainly be looking into the other suggestions you have made.

This restores my faith in humanity that there are people like yourself who are so willing to offer out information.

I know more now than when I first posted this thread even if it leads to nothing considering I had nothing in the first place.

    Many thanks, Keith

Beverley if she was in the port of Fowey she was either loading China Clay or maybe Grain or possibly discharging coal. Just a thought. I think the China clay company is English China Clay?? May open another avenue for you, good luck.
