I had a 4th Engineer with a serious problem , The company arranged for the British Rail doctor in Southampton to see him whilst we were changing trains shipping home to Portsmouth from Weymouth , the doc was retired ex army , straight talking , got him admitted that day , he was off four months , when he came back out of an intake of 16 , on a one drink and you are out principle only two lasted the course , he rebuilt his life , the other checked into the first pub , you have to WANT to give up
I'l tell you what Rob that Waterlooville sounds like a real bad place to live from reading your post's over the years,and they say Liverpool is a bad place Liverpool sounds like Utopia in comparison with that place.

dont think liverpool is any worse than any other major city jim .....but after reading your ongoing saga re your prostrate ......perhaps the medical side of things is not as good as it should be.....

I am not questioning your post or opinions Lewis, but would like clarification on "...but it happens in hospitals everyday, to terminally ill people, do not resuscitate."
For the past few elections one party has put forward a proposal to introduce into my country a medical system similar to the NHS. The other party have been opposed; however organizations equally opposed have mounted a campaign to stymie any movement by those favoring the NHS type of program. A successful multi-media campaign accused the UK of having a death-committee that could make decisions to terminate terminal patients. Thus in the opinion of the organization paying for the campagne "keeping medical costs down," it is much like putting a sick dog down. I hasten to add these were not endorsed officially by either of our two parties but neither were they vocally opposed by the one opposed to a government sponsored medical program.
My wife and I have documents prepared by an attorney, acceptable to our State and Federal laws; hospitals and physicians that in the event of coma not to be resuscitated. This document is called a "Living Will". It has been integrated into our medical records, and we have placed copies in obvious places; house, car etc. in case of a dual accident and the unexpected happens to both of us.
Now I assumed these adds about the medical program in the UK were false, now your statement raises a question, so can the NHS make a life or death decision, if so who decides?

To put it simply if you are over 80+ (and I don't care what anyone on here says) Hospitals in the UK will and do inform patients before a major operation in the event of things not going to plan they will not resuscitate. I was with my mother inlaw in Broad Green hospital when she was to have major heart surgery. The surgeon told her because heart condition and her general health they would not resuscitate. She said what would happen if she did not have the surgery? you will be dad by Christmas. She had to sign a form agreeing to the (will not resuscitate clause)
My father inlaw same thing and they did not resuscitate. A neighbour across the road exactly the same thing they did not resuscitate. All were late 70's early 80''s and I am going back 10+years.
When my mother went into hospital aged 87, having had a very bad fall, they wanted to carry our an operation, and i was asked if i wanted her resuscitated, she was very ill, and i did say no. In the event she was too ill to have the procedure, and after 5 weeks in a hospital bed she passed away peacefully, kt
Anywhere with big estates has problems ,, within a five mile radius we have some large social housing areas , a couple of rotten streets can ruin an area by reputation , the one bed flats in low rise blocks have higher proportion of single men , often with issues , unemployable , living by shoplifting in many cases , good business for the Provy though , always cheap meat , cheap tracksuits , cheap make upbQuote:

There was a "Liverpool Pathway" in operation a couple or more years ago,
No food, no liquids, and let the patient die.
My sistr in law, 78 ws put on the Pathway when she was in hospital,.
My nephews took her out of hospital and back to her Nursing home, and she was fed and watered, she was out of bed and walking around, and she lived for another 18 months.
I believe that practice has now been stopped/.
