Hi John, the Homebase chain of DIY stores have sold off some of their outlets here and there is now a Bunnings at Basildon
in place of the Homebase store I've used for years, I was surprised to see the old store close as it did a good trade and was
a good DIY store where you could get most of what you needed, my son took me over to have a look at the new Bunnings and
first impressions are it's a very good store and yep they had the Saturday Sausage Sizzle on the go, with a local girl doing her
best to look like a Sheila :). I'm decorating my hall at the mo so was able to get what I wanted but mostly I shop online now
as I quit driving abou four years ago, for me "snags" has always meant hitting problems on a project or the like, never heard
of a banger being called a snag before. Cheers JFC

Apparently: A sausage. In Australia and elsewhere snag has a number of meanings, including ‘a submerged tree stump’, ‘an unexpected drawback’, and more recently a ‘sensitive new age guy’. But in Australia, a snag is also a ‘sausage’, a sense that probably comes from the British dialect word snag, ‘a morsel, a light meal’.

At home my breakfast consists of fresh orange juice,brown bread toast
and a large cup of tea,but on holiday for some unknown reason i go the
whole hog with juice,cereal,breakfast with all the trimmings and toast
and marmalade plus my cup of tea,but then when I get home its back to
my "home" breakfast.

AH the Welsh, if it's part of the package eat it all. I only have one and a half Weetbix for breakfast for yonks, but when we used to go away and stay in a Motel I ate everything that came through the door, and the Roos were lucky they hopped past.

Starting the day with smoked salmon, only leaves room for Black and white pudding and poached eggs, pos toast and marmalade.

This way Glamorgan sausage, laverbread and Cockles (A type of small shellfish, collected from sandy beaches around the UK. Closely related species are found and collected in the same way around the world. Fresh cockles are of course the preferred option where they are available and many people insist that the cockles for a proper Welsh breakfast should be specifically from the Penclawdd area, near Swansea). Glamorgan sausage is a traditional Welsh vegetarian sausage for which the main ingredients are cheese, leeks and breadcrumbs. Laver is a fine seaweed collected for consumption along the Welsh coastline. Welsh laverbread or "bara lawr"

Talking of sausages always turns my mind back to the old Navigation papers. In celestial navigation was “ all sausages turn cold” too droll to go into but involved the use of an old penny and was a good memory aid..Another one was Durham Light Infantry and was a quick way of working out a composite great circle don’t think even the BOT knew that one, Maybe Cappy didn’t receive all the pennies that were supposed to go to him after use, and that’s where he’s getting mixed up. There were no real sausages by the way so he never got those. JWS.

Apparently Bunnings may be having a bit of a re-think on this one.
The change over is not going down so well with the locals, many of whom are complaining that the goods they were able to buy in the previous shops are no longer available.
Maybe this is why Bunnings so far have lost just over 1 billion dollars on this venture into UK and Ireland.
Best bit, the three top men who brought it to UK have now all moved on to other companies.

I found the big difference between Bunnings and Homebase is the store I visited was more like a warehouse with some
goods stacked way to high to high see and reach also wallpaper choices were not so good, Homebase on the other hand
was a store that's more like a big shop with a better selection and especially in the tool dept, I still say Bunnings is a good
store but I did miss many things I liked about Homebase, as said I do most of my shopping online now so it doesn't really
matter to me anymore. JFC
