There are enough Subjects here to keep all going with debates on various things,but to me Politics,Race and Religion debates are Subjects best left alone on a site such as this.

By all means have you debates on most all things that come up,and as you say so long as it does not end up as a personal attack on someone here.

Louis, your concept is good but we are mere mortals subject to all manner of differing views.

As to politics, a good sense of humor does help here, sadly we are all bound by their decisions even when we know they ae not the full quid, if they were such stupid rules would never exist.
As to religion, well practiced in many churches I am told, and what better place for it?/

But argue we must as that is part of who we are, just imagine what sort of a world it would be if we all thought the same, Mary with her leg would be worn out by now, then we would have cappy to contend with.

So laugh, dream and live life as you wish, do not be a burden to others, do not abuse them even if they stir the **** out of you, you can always ignore them, or we could bore them away with some stories.

Doc it is not often that I disagree with you and Brian , in fact this is the first and I hope the only time.
Politics and the decisions made by politicians have a direct effect on our lives , our country and the wider world.
Health care , pensions , tax , housing , the armed services , the list goes on and on even to the price of food in our shops. How can we not discuss this ?
I do not want to push this so will say no more , as I know you have to moderate in a fair and balanced way.

I will go and splice the mainbrace even though the sun is not yet over the yardarm.

Yes this is a Merchant Navy site.
But as in the mess room,all topics were up for discussion.
As a rule, no real harm ever came of it.
For those who take exception, if you don't like it, keep out of the conversation.
I do.
I have been a member since 2008.
In all of that time, I have only been ridiculed once.
Pretty good odds really.
Certainly had it more often than that in my sea days.
I could have decided to leave the site, but who would that hurt.
ME.
We are all grown men/woman.

louis I understand every single word and liked your post but??? what do what can the average person do against the corruption greed expense accounts just about everything we don't stand for they get away with? we the people that want a better country most of us could do a far better job for the people we are like tadpoles in a shark tank you see it every day in the news not children starving or dying of thirst people don't want to see that ?we do they don't as long as they are feeding of the taxpayer and keeping our mouths shut they are happy if we do say something we are trouble causers racists branded as anything and the press we hang us out to dry true or not that is the way of the world today? jp

Regarding Politics and particularly the state of politics in the UK would admin consider moving anything to do with our current masters & shadow masters to the thread that deals with humour. Let's face it anyone who can take Boris Johnson seriously as Foreign Secetary or Diane Abbot as the next Home secetary ??it is a comedy it really is , potenially a damaging comedy for all who live in the UK.
To put it another way Boris will likely as not get named in the next sex scandal to surface , being an ex Etonian boy, his fag will say he touched him up. Poor Diane will complain that no one has touched her up as in harassment. Theresa May will complain no one chased her in to the field of wheat and Jeremy Corybn may actually say he was sexually assaulted by Diane Abbot.
