    Don't think there can be too many single hulled tankers sailing around these days but if there are and they have a pump room then any bulkhead penetration for drive shafts and the pumps them selves have to be fitted with temperature monitoring devices to give warning of any over heating bearings.

    John is that the case on a modern VLCC? last new build tanker I was on was the British Endurance but she was just a product tanker 2003 took her from the yard new , she had Framo pumps in every tank, noisey buggers. Last VLCC I was on was the Columba Star 1990's build , segregated ballast tanker but sinlge hulled, traditional pump arrangement 3 cargo pumps and 2 ballast pumps.
