Eyes

I stopped driving after 54 years at age 75-76 because of eyesight problems, after I lost my wife I found I was mainly using the car for the shops, now I get my shopping online from Sainsburys a delivery pass cost me about £60 per year for delivery on
any day of the week, I get most other things DIY etc on eBay where deliveries are mostly free so a huge saving on running a
car. I do miss the freedom that comes with driving but with todays traffic jams and the poor driving conditions, I'm happy to have a walk.cheers John F

Decided to play straight and telephoned the DVLA this morning. I told them about the eye specialists tests and how it appears the problem has been fixed but the woman I spoke to with a lovely Welsh accent said they still must be informed. She is sending a medical questionnaire form through the post.

Do you need insurance for a walking frame ?

They are called mobility scooters today, I couldn't imagine myself on one of those, brilliant as they are. John F

In this area there have been a lot of accidents including a couple of deaths all caused by elderly drivers with bad eyesight
one of the deaths was a young woman in her early twenties, she was killed on a pedestrian crossing on her way to pick up her
wedding dress, the driver was told to stop driving by his optician but ignored the advice, he died while he was waiting for his court case to come up, the girl who died was the niece of a local female vicar who started a campaign to stop drivers with bad sight from driving, there was lots of stuff in the local paper and the police started doing spot checks, I had already quit driving
at this time and it made it clear to me I'd made the right decision and I've got peace of mind. John F

#13, John, there's an older gentleman in the village who wears a stetson and whizzes past my son's door every day, so fast... that you have to look left and right before you put a foot outside. When my grandchildren see him they run from one window to the next and never catch him:)

We've got our share of them Marian :) I'm expecting to see go faster stripes and handlebar tassels next it's like looking at
the fairground bumper cars that we all loved before we were old enough to drive. John F
