Cappy I can take a joke as good as the next man but I think that you were out of order bringing me into this over having four tellies and referring to me as "another capitalist on this site".Your argument with Louis has nothing todo with me.!!!!

Do you know any established greyhound trainers Louis? They would be able to at the very least suggest a medication that could ease the dogs symptoms. Chances are they could provide at cost. My late father in law [trainer] often used over the counter human remedies [including hair dye!!] you just have to vary the dosage accordingly. May as well ask them about the teeth while your at it:)
The RSPCA charge a fee for "strays" and vet the family too [excuse the pun] for suitability, so no point going down that route.

Getting back to the original subject.
I still think you should check out your local PDSA clinic. On their website they say they do good quality, low cost pet insurance and also have a network of PDSA affiliated vets.
My now departed mother in law had her dog treated and eventually due to age, put down by the PDSA and she was not on any benefits, we just made a contribution to the centre where her dog was treated at.
A phone call inquiry could save you a load of dosh, (if not already done).

John A a pensioner on basic OAP would not qualify they also need another component such as Pension Credit or Pension Savings sometimes these payments are far less than £1.00pw but they open the door to many other benefits as in the case of the PDSA.

Thanks John , I did look at this on line but afraid Jim is correct I am not entitled for help with fees because I do not claim benefits.
Thank you for your suggestion Marian , unfortunately I do not know any greyhound trainers , but the old timers must have had their own remedies for treating their animals.
Not sure if it is a good idea for Brian to chain a dog to post in Boltonstan. The RSPCA would not get to it in time.
Dog is considered a delicacy in many middle eastern countries, so he needs to be very careful where he keeps the mutt.
If it wasn't for pets I could be a wealthy pensioner. We have 3 cats and one dog.All rescued and much loved. The dog is a Spanish hunting dog called a podenco andaluz that is afraid of everything including wifes hair dryer, curtains moving in the breeze, children and many other things.Cant take him out in the car because he gets travel sick after about 10 minutes and suffers from epilepsy which means that he has to have 3 tablets every day at about 1 euro each,he,s had an operation for a tumour at about 1000euros and treatment for a pancreas problem and has injections every year against something call leashmans disease.
We have a cat that,s had all her teeth removed due to gingivitis and an operation for gallstone at a cost of over 3000euro and an operation for an ingrowing claw.
they all have passports which cost about 100 euro each year each for the bloodtests and injections for rabies and other things. The food for the cats has to be special from the vets beacause one of the cats is 16 and together with his old digestive system and the other cats delicate stomach through the op cost 3 times what normal food would cost.
So don't tell me about vets bills.
###its amazing the cost of animals when they are ill ......some people are very ignorant of this possibilty and end up with dogs cats and other animals in pain cos they cannot pay the cost of paying for the medicines involved ....this is surely a crime .....as a family with my children we have had two race horses three ponies three dogs ...but have always paid for the medication needed as we provided insurance for all and paid the difference ......the race horses one a winner the other not but good fun......but if you want to throw money away get a race horse ...the only winner is the trainer and the bookies........regards cappy
