Re: In a state of shock
Rodders, it has been told that Trump went to many places where the poor lived, some living in shipping containers if the truth has been told. He said at the time this was just not good enough for a nation such as USA. Hillary it is said effused to go to such areas.
Most of his election speak was pure rhetoric and on that bit he is no different from any other politician. But I do believe having head him after the win that he will do some very good things.
He speaks of deporting illegal drug barons, excellent in my book.
Building infrastructure will create jobs, and wealth for the nation.
I agree with his comments to some extent about NATO, many nations who could afford to pay towards it do not do so. As to climate, I am convinced from some of the comments here by scientists that it is a political issue and not one of nature.
Whilst he talks of tariffs I think he is good enough at business to know that can work both ways.
As to those opposed to him, whilst they have the right to protest, the fact is they must respect the outcome if democracy is to be maintained.
Would they like to do what some 80 politicians in UK propose, keep voting again and again until you get the outcome you want and not the one of the majority?
Like all new leaders we must be prepared to give him ago , and his association with Putin may well be a good thing. We have to wait and see.

Re: In a state of shock
The marching troops of the extreme right are on the rise again , two of the men who will be closest advisers to Trump are neo fascists , our own Nigel Farage is now more relevant than ever.
Heavily armed militias in the States training for the day they will be fighting their own countrymen. European countries turning to National Front and other right wing politicians .
Dangerous times ahead.

Agree with you regards Russia , surrounded by western missile bases in former eastern bloc countries , blamed for the carnage in the Middle East which was caused by the disastrous policy's of Bush and Blair.

Re: In a state of shock
The left wing of our Labor party here in Oz, is there any other than left in Labor, say we should cut ties with USA now Donald will be in charge and align ourselves with Asia. Maybe the North Korean guy might like to adopt us?
But the PM has put it in the correct context. In the event of trouble we will need them, most likely to keep Asia away.
If Oz, or any other country for that matter, turns away from USA then who could blame them if they cut all others off in retaliation.
USA has been a great friend in times of trouble and in peace, why would we walk away from that?

At one of Trumps last rallies there was a commotion in the audience , it was thought a man had a gun , one of the secret service agents shouted.
" Quick Donald duck "
