The government could be shooting itself in the foot if it wants to come out of Europe,then again I don't believe they want to leave the EU.If they continue to bring in draconian laws against unions or anything else the vast majority of people will vote to stay in Europe because Europe will overturn the governments laws on the grounds that they are against the peoples Human Rights.You know we cant make our own laws here.

Jim, I wouldn't say the proposed laws are not draconian, just common sense.
One of the RMT strikes last year was based on 2011 mandate where less than 20% voted to strike.
Some of the laws are to prevent picketing at director/owners houses as Unite did in the Grangemouth dispute a few years ago.
The Unions are their own biggest enemy, they don't seem to think things through.
In your last sentence, you give a very good reason whey we should vote to leave the EU.
Our Government (of which ever colour) are elected by the people of the UK t govern them, and not by some unelected second rate politicians based in the EU Commission.

If call me Dave and co. were doing their job there shouldn't be any agency workers.I think they are aware of the desperation of people to work I imagine agency workers would jump in like a flash faced with the situation.The last sentence Vic was giving the reason for people voting to stay in.

we have stood as an island for millenniums why do we need others to tell us anything like a banana is not a banana if its not bent and all the other committees costing hundreds of thousands on the stupidest things just for something to do lets wait for the vote? we will never bring back the good old days when everyone was in work but at least it will take the monkey of our backs that is Europe when we started in the old common market we were lead to believe costs of things will be the same all over the common market and slowly things started to change laws prices etc it costs the country 1.6 billion pounds a year for this money that could be better spent here I for one has never been a fan of the eu to many noses in the trough?where do we get our ships from steal from coal from countries that are not in the eu but we were told they would be brought in from the eu at the time we joined? jp

Still trying to figure out how the UK ever came into a situation where it is partially governed from a foreign country. Europe meant to me the Common Market and not governance of national laws. Would the USA accept laws from Canada or vice versa. What is obvious to any one watching the present situation the European Parliament is either going to implode or explode when Eastern European states ignore orders from such. Wasn't Turkey also seeking membership of this old boys club as well, what happened to those aspirations. I just totally fail to see what mental flashes of geniousness from various leaders entrusted with the sovereignty of their country hoped to achieve by putting legislation in the hands of foreign powers. Month by month year by year until nothing is left of the British way of life is what they have given to future generations. What a shower we have had as statesmen, even though I call myself an Australian now, I feel utter contempt for those who have been the manufacturers of the situation they have put the land of my birth in. Democracy allows unions to go on strike for the simplest of reasons. Here in Melbourne the ram and train drivers are taking strike action on various days. We now have a state Labor gov and getting more strikes than we ever had when the Liberals were in power. The train drivers, now on more than $1500 per week want an 18% pay rise!! Inflation at about 1.9%, but not too worry there are now plans to begin trialing driverless trains as in Singapore, Paris, parts of London. Go on strike for more by all means , but be aware your action may in the end see you out of a job.
