    one answer is easy.
    What mileage are you stating.
As I have three cars my insurance is thus
Bently brookland 1997"£214 full comp. 4000 miles two driver
Saab 90se 1997 £200 fully comp 3000 miles just little old me
Toyota Hybride prius 2009 £ 200 full comp 6000 miles. MY KIDS AND MY BROTHER IN LAW
    AND ALL WITH LV.
So if your mileage is low then that will reflect the cost.
So Brian I would check this out.
Also if you get on to them and say you may go else where they some times make you a better offer

#13... Was just going to say that Charlie. Think the insurances are different in the UK though. Am no expert as didn't drive when lived there, the wife drove me and picked up from the pub if necessary. Out here your third party comes with the Obligatory Registeration fee and are quite legal to drive on that. The car I have just exchanged was the second of two identical cars I purchased in 2007 the first being a write off when some idiot came through a stop sign and smack, QBE were the insurers and although I paid 13000 dollars for the car they insisted I pay premiums for an 18000 dollar value. The inspector for the damage phoned me up and said would I accept 17000 dollars, which I tried to not appear too grateful for. Went back and bought exactly the same model and make ( as was from a fleet of cars) for the original 13000 dollars, fairs fair they say in love and war. The UK differs in various ways to us I believe as remember when I had a mortgage in the UK never seemed to come down in the debt only by coppers every year. Here it came down in leaps and bounds, was the way they applied the interest repayments, think the Building societys in England must have been making a killing. People pay off mortgages here in 5 to 10 years, if I still lived in UK would still be paying mine I reckon. Cheers JS PS you are probably the same in the East, where if you are old and wrinkly the Driving Licences are free gratis. John S

Sitting here chuckling away to myself, and thought I'd share the joke - I had this vision of Brian behind the wheel of a German, French or Japanese car!

Brian maybe these Insurance brokers may think you are going to use the car as a passion palace, promise them you are going to keep your eyes on the road and nowhere else. I'm expecting my insurance going down this year from 546 dollars ( roughly about 250 quid) fully comprehensive. To less when I tell them I don't have cruise control and now stand a good chance of staying awake, and is also a smaller engine. The youngsters ( under 26) pay higher premiums and are always complaining, I usually give them the finger as I overtake them. Cheers JS

Back in 1984 when we were moving from Brisbane to Singapore, we'd sold everything except the favourite furniture - and the TransAm. I really wanted to keep that car - 1978 Limited Edition a la Smokey and the Bandit - and the shipping cost wasn't too exorbitant. Then somebody told me I'd better check out the Singapore road tax, because most cars over there had very small engines. I checked it out, and received a fax from the Singapore government, saying it was off their chart, but they would get back to me. Two days later the quoted price nearly gave me a heart attack. So I sadly said goodbye to the TransAm and put it up for sale on consignment. When I got to Singapore, I bought a used Cortina station wagon for less than a month's road tax on the TransAm! I don't know about now, but back then the cost of road tax increased according to the engine capacity. Not in a straight line, but on an upward curve. Their chart stopped at 6ltrs, and the TransAm was well over 7ltrs, which was why it took them an extra 2 days to get back to me.

    Hi Braid,
My car is made in South Korea. No way would I buy a Froggy French car or german or italian or spanish
I only bought the Korean because I was away from home and my lovely Volvo 575 top model, blew up and died after 265,000 miles and 14 years old.
I was stuck and paid cash for the KIA , didn't have enough for a new Volvo.
When, not if, I win the Lottery, [ think positive] I will buy a new VOLVO again. they are the very best car ever.
    Cheers
    Brian.
PS Had a few offers on Insurance up to £200 cheaper than Liverpool Victoria. still going through the list.
    Brian
