In reply to #45, let me tell you from personal experience some poms do not wash. We had two here a few years ago, old neighbors from where we once lived in UK. After two days we offered them fresh bath towels, it was mid summer and bloody hot we were showering twice some days. No thanks came the reply we have not used these yet. For the three weeks with us once a week shower was all they had.
Went over the mountains in 4 degrees of heat called into a pub for a beer, do you have any bottles that have not been cooled??????????????????
The barman just said no we do not get many poms in this part of the world.

Thick slice of bread loaded with beef dripping. It's a wonder some of us are still here.

Can I ask those of you who ate beef dripping sandwiches was the fat heated first then the bread dipped into the pan?

Vladimir Putin, wanting to get on the good side of voters, goes to visit a school in Moscow to have a chat with the children. He talks to them about how Russia is a powerful nation and how he wants the best for the people.

At the end of the talk, there is a section for questions. Little Sasha puts her hand up and says "I have two questions. Why did the Russians take Crimea? And why are we sending troops to Ukraine?" Putin says "Good questions..." But just as he is about to answer, the bell goes, and the kids go to lunch.

When they come back, they sit back down and there is room for some more questions, another girl, Misha, puts her hand up and says "I have four questions. My Questions are - Why did the Russians invade Crimea? Why are we sending troops to Ukraine? Why did the bell go 20 minutes early? And where is Sasha?

Dripping on bread at the Vindi was like someone at the Palace eating caviar, The fat was hot the bread was stale but it was food food food.

First class cuisine was the cold dripping on toast with plenty of salt. Whatever happened to the powdered egg, bet if it was still available there would find a good market for. When I worked for a butcher all the fat off cuts were put in a big boiler to render down to dripping to be sold as, we used to stick bread into the kiln and just eat the fat streaming down the jowls, not that I had jowls in those days. Not even supposed to eat salt nowadays, until the next medical theoretician comes along and says salt is good for you, as they once did. Used to even be a form of currency in some African countries not too long ago. JS This post now resembles what it started out as Communism, as reference has now been made to salt, and the reader with imagination will immediately think of salt mines, and once again be re-indoctorated back to the anti Russian propaganda of being sent to the Salt Mines. Bread and milk for breakfast, bread and dripping for lunch an a whack around the ear if we were late for dinner. Simple thi9ngs at time wen life was simple and we enjoyed it all.

Not quite Marian. In Liverpool, usually on a Monday morning, the day after the roast beef dinner, we were given two thick slices of white bread liberally smeared with cold dripping, a little salt and wrapped up in the previous day's News of The World paper and packed off to school. Haute cuisine indeed!
