Hi Terry, reducing corporation tax encourages big companies to invest in the UK, bringing jobs etc. Would you rather companies invest abroad?

John in W.A. re. post #34.
John, it's been 53 years since you've been in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Don't you think there could have been a few changes in Louisiana, the South, and the U.S.A. in 53 years?
I first visited Australia In 1953. Pubs closed at six, men had to have skirts, or what ever you call them, over their swimming trunks. Seventeen years ago, when I was last in Oz. men were wearing brief speedos, and women bikinis, and pubs etc. were wide open. Just two unimportant examples of change.
I left the U.K. in 1958. The U.K. had the worlds largest Merchant navy and a world class naval force. When I last went back 17 years ago she had neither. The world moves on.
You may note I never criticize life in either Australia or the U.K. because my observations are 17 years old and out-of-date. Don't you think your observations of the U.S.A. that are 53 years old, do not have any bearing on the situation as it exists in the U.S.A. today?
Be fair, don't be judgmental by using ancient personal experiences, it comes across to me as though it's more of a personal prejudice than a fair observation.
As I told Captain Kong, I do not claim my country right or wrong. I only respond to what I deem as inaccuracies. You visit the United States and tell us you had a rotten time...no worries mate. I would be sorry that you did, but I wouldn't take it as an attack. But quoting things that occurred 35 years ago, come on John!
Cheers, Rodney
Red leg Ted.
A misunderstanding on my part, I erroneously assumed North and South was the states not the North and South of England.
It is my understanding that Eire has no Business Tax. Quite a few overseas based U.S. companies have changed or are planning changing their Domicile Address from other European countries to Eire, in order to eliminate Corporate tax. Perhaps that explains the reduction in the U.Ks corporate tax rate?
Cheers, Rodney
#44, A slight correction Rodney, Eire does have a Corperation tax set at 12%, making it a viable and attractive domicle for Companies based in countries with a higher tax rate eg, America, UK, Europe. As an aside, my hubby used to say if you are looking for a mug in Ireland you would need to bring him with you::)
That's Right Jim
Joe Foster is his name, I mentioned him before, His dad had the shoe business and Joe left school and worked there starting at the bottom,
I used to run with Joe but he had spikes on his shoes, I just had gollies and would slip on wet grass,. Joe always won the races. The headquarters were in Bolton. before going world wide./ I remember the opening of one of his offices in Bolton, Charlton Heston came over to open it, His mother Elizabeth was there. She was a beautiful blonde lady and when we were kids she drove an open topped sports car to take Joe and me round to various sports events.
I see there is no mention of Bolton in that article. That was the Headquarters. But he left school at 15 same as me at the same time,
Brian.
Off in the morning

It beats me how anyone can not enjoy a holiday in the US. The place is made for great vacations from north to south and east to west. Myself, I would never dream of going to some place in Europe. We have actually been offered the chance to live in Long Island, the only thing that is stopping us is the health insurance, both of us are in our seventies so insurance would be a must. If we could get over that hurdle we would be off like a shot.

John
Vic, That is my point there is too much lack of investment in the U.K. I notice no one has mentioned Cameron's dilemma I posted. He faces some very dodgy questions on Wednesday P.M Question Time, I want to know how he can justify giving a rogue trader like Stephen Green a job as minister of trade. As for working on making it they are very few and far between John, But I wish your son all the success in the world. p.s. Up to 119 billion £ in tax evasion in the uk, The deficit in the uk is estimated at 90 billion £ That's one way to get more small businesses of the ground. But then the coalition have brought ONE!!!!!!!! Prosocution for tax evasion to book. If I was to cheat the benefit system out of £100 I would be brought to book like 1,000s of others, You can still be jailed in the U.K. For not possessing a T.V. Licence and people are. Don't pin our youth down give them a hand up, I think we were all young once were we not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terry. :mymy:
Thanks for the correction Marian, I stand corrected. U.S. has one of the highest corporate tax in the world:
"Federal tax rates on corporate taxable income vary from 15% to 35%."
The latest maneuver is for a company to by a company in a country with a much lower tax rate, consolidate then move the corporate h.q. there, be taxed and leave all the companies money there, thus not paying tax in the U.S.; despite the U.S. generating most of the revenue....still, for NOW it's legal. I bet there's going to be a law past to stop it.
Cheers, Rodney
. Hi Charlie, The Salvation Army has done some excellent searches for us.
In 1920 my granddad did a runner from my Grandma on Walney Island . leaving her with five very young daughters, one my mother.
Grandma was in The Sally, The Salvation Army Search Team found him in 1930 living in Auckland NZ under a different name and also Married with another family.
I was forced by Grandma, at a very early age , probably age Five plus, to join the Salvation Army, I became a "Little Sunbeam" no less.[ hard to believe today,] and had to go door to door selling the `War Cry` and `The Young Soldier`.
every Saturday. or else.!!!
Brian i guess having a relative in the organization helped to get things done in your family.Good luck to them, but my feelings toward them are long standing and unchangeable!
