Cappy, I also can't drink beer now but I can handle wine OK - except my next door neighbour at Christmas bought some over and I reciprocated. Bleddy hell we hung one on. He's only a few years younger than me but I was as sick as drover's dog for three days and he was fit as a fiddle the next morning - and just about had to carry him home!!!!!

I read the bit by Brian about having three alcohol free days in a week. I did try that once for a week, but it is so long ago now I cannot remember which week it was.

With one hospital, Portsmouth Hospital, has 4,000 admissions a year costing £10,000,000 a year that is a lot of plonk going down without a break. He is only trying to save lives and a whole lot of painful suffering.
and having two alcoholics in the extended family I can see the disasterous effects.

I to have cut down my consumption of alcohol over the last few months and like cappy enjoy a glass of wine and put the gold watch to bed. As for the beer the beers we drank 30 40 yrs ago were for me a real brew, Double Diamond on draught was a lovely beer, A pint of anything in those days seemed to keep a good frothy head right down the glass, The nearest thing these days to a pint of beer has to be Guinness and you can't down many of them its that heavy. Yes agree cappy the days of waking up with a throat like Gungadins loincloth are over. Terry.;)

Ale years ago was good for you, made of real barley malt and hops..
All changed now , full of artificial flavours and Carbon dioxide gas and all kinds especially in Lager. I never sup that stuff.
If you can find a good Real Ale brew it will do you more good.
My brother in Knowlsley brewed a good Real Ale, but he was taken over last year by another brewery.
It is Liverpool Organic Brewery, near Waterloo Station. not far from you Terry. Phone 933 9660.
Their Real Ale is made of Organic Barley Malt and Hops. all good stuff.
Bitter is, `24 Carat Gold` 4.2% `Cascade` 5.3% and many others.
Enjoy it.
If you are going to get bevied, then make sure it is good ale and not crap.

Funny how we change over time.Like others have mentioned.
I used to love a pint. Now I never drink beer. Well the odd Guinness now and then.
Make my own red wine. Have a couple of glasses before dinner.
Can't imaging a run ashore and ordering wine.
Some of the establishments I frequented, wouldn't have even heard of the stuff.

When the Cape Verde Islands gained independence from Portugal we were stuck there trying to get home after paying off a tanker in Porto Grande and on the jetty you could not move for cases of Carlsberg stacked 10 or more high along the whole length of the pier.
That night, watching the Independence ceremony we all got rat arsed on local wine, the result being that the Engineer cadet did a streak across the stage behind the Portuguese and Cape Verde Islands president's.
Not amused they were

Brian Liverpool Organic Brewery is in Bootle,you most probably mean that they serve their beer in a bar called Stamps Too in South Road Waterloo which I dont frequent as i find it a bit strange.

My brother was talking about it today and I wrote it down but unforunately I shredded that piece of paper.
So I did it from memory, He did mention the Stamps Too. I did think he said the brewery was near the station but again I could be wrong.
Anyway he reckons it is good ale from the Liverpool Organic Brewery. Not tried it myself yet. His beer was very good before the take over.
