Jim you may well be correct on this one but for one fact, most of the players in the EPL along with the managers are not British. But do you fly the Union flag or the cross of St., George from the local town hall, I do not recall when living there seeing it. Yet on St. Patricks day every one wants to be a Paddy, what a wierd and diverse time we live in.
Cappy that is a very important point, I wonder how many schools that have majority or all non English their first language know what ST Georges day is ??? Or who he was this country of ours drags itself down alright, When I was a kid here in L,Pool It was an occasion not just at school, But also people spoke of it in the neighbourhood. Lord things have changed. Terry. :mymy:
I believe that the Cross of St. George should be flown proudly today.
The trouble is the BNP hijacked and used it for their own political ends. Then along came the liberal sandal wearers and the PC brigade, who branded anyone who flew the English national flag as racist, when clearly they were not.
Its time the majority took over control of this country and knocked the minorities into touch.
Have a good Saint George's day.
Just doing my bit here in Southern California. Did'nt have St. Georges flag but fly this also on Trafalgar Day, and have much pleasure pointing it out to my French neighbor!
Lets not forget Will Shakespear's birthday as well.
Cheers
John
I have two England flags in my window today, it winds up my neighbours,
They think it is a Crusaders flag, Richard the Lion Heart wore one on his chest when fighting the
thingies around Jerusalem a thousand years ago,
This morning I went from Bolton to Bury to Fred`s wifes funeral at her church for mass, I saw one flag outside a property, It was The Cafe Vienna.
Came all the way back to Bolton through all the Thingy districts to the Cemetery and not one flag.
Did not see a mention of it on BBC. News. tho` they are Anti British.
Cameron in his speech about Britain being a Christian Country should also have declared St Georges Day as a public holiday.
Last year the Landlord of a pub in the south of England was given an extension of drinking hours on St Patricks Day, When he applied for an extension for St Georges Day he was refused as it was rascist.
Are we living in a Lunatic Asylum????????//
Brian.
The flag of the United Kingdom comprises St George for the Kingdom of England, St Andrew for the Kingdom of Scotland and St Patrick for the Kingdom of Ireland. Unfortunately for the Welsh, Wales is not represented on the flag, as it has been part of the Kingdom of England since King Edward I (Longshanks) put an end to their uprisings in the 13th century.
FOURO.
I have just been reading that Cameron has said that for too long St Georges day has been forgotten and not celebrated, but this year the flag will fly proudly above number ten. I have no time for him, but his recent remarks on us being a christian country, and now flying the flag of St George has earned a couple of brownie points from me, this is in the telegraph online KT
Nothing to do with St. Georges day really but two bits of interesting news on the Beeb this morning.
Firstly, big Surprise.
The Blair gave a speech stating that the radicalisation of a certain well known religion is the greatest threat to western security. He then went on to how this threat should be nullified but did not mention nuking the bersterds.
Secondly
Oh joy, Led Zepplin are releasing re-mastered copies of their albums and are releasing previously un heard tracks.
Both snippets made my day even though it was mealy mouthed Tony giving the speech. First time I have ever heard any politician expressing such a strong view regarding this matter.
