Brian,80#Did it say what the jobs were, zero hour contract, how many hours per week and what were the wages. All them Poles living there if the jobs were any good they would've been snapped up.Sometimes Brian you have got to get into the real world and find out what is all about.

The local ones here are by the day , no work no pay , like the dockers years ago , The work is back breaking and a 12 hour shift is back breaking work , They want you 4 Days from 7 , the pick the days , often at short notice , all at minimum pay . I personally would tell them to stuff their lettuces where the sun don't shine . Employment law , is a joke , it is all temporary contract stuff ., It is a job, but one I would want , noi thanks
Dare say that it is the same in the UK as here in Oz. A lot of blokes are on the dole after a marriage break up because of maintainance payments to to the ex who usually has the kids. Know of many cases here and see it every day where the ex has shacked up with another bloke and claiming single parents payments plus the money from the ex husband while living rent free with another bloke who is also bringing in a good wage. If the ex husband goes on the dole then he does not have to pay her anything and usually ends up being better of on the dole. So how many blokes are on the dole because of this and expand it to the ex wives who have no intention of working again and you soon end up with a welfare mentality. Now lump them in with the drop kicks that are around and it is no wonder that we are ending up with ghetto's of unemployed and with so much time on their hands end up taking up drugs to fill in the day.

it did not say what the 1600 jobs were or contracts etc, I was merely saying what was reported.
It said the Poles in the packing plant were earning £350 a week with overtime. That is all.
There is no need to be sarky about what kind of world we live in.
I have worked in hard tough jobs ALL my life so I do know what this world is all about. And it is because I did that I am comfortable in Retirement.
Cheers
Brian.
These packing plants are carrying out the types of working practices that I have spent a lifetime kicking against , There are several plants owned by wealthy farming families , they treat their workers like medieval serfs ,providing sub standard old caravan accommodation . I don't blame people not wanting to work for them , and all the dislike ticks in the World cannot change the truth .
I fear this is a problem in many western countries. My brother is having a house built in a new area, amny of the houses will be by the same company and to dat all the work, slab, frame, brickwork, gyprock, has been done by sub contractors all of whom are intakes, but very hard workers even working weekends and public hollidays. They get paid for each job so th emore they do the better the pay and who can blame them for that?
But like UK we have a job centre of sorts, it is an agency that co-ordinates a number of areas such as social paymenst etc, it is officialy known as Centrelink, but for the majority of users who know exactly what they are like it is called the Missing Link.
Hi shipmates, When I was at sea the union would makes us sign on the dole, as it was called back then, I remember also had pool pay? and working at the same time, would take any job /cash only on docks or elsewhere, no rules enforced back then? just as the money was rolling in nicely . I would get a telegram to join a ship this happen a few times to me ...
Brian not a case of being sarky just being truthful, you made a statement without it painting the full picture.Brian why are you not happy with your lot?you have just done a world cruise and after it you have to go and ogle less fortunate people than yourself attending a food bank and slagging them off.It would've been more of a story had you said "I just took £10's worth of food down to our local foodbank".If people are happy with their lot why do they want to give themselves a heart attack worrying about what benefits people are getting.Would you prefer to have no money and no world cruise for the sake of getting a £1000 combi boiler free. All said without malice of course.
Regards.

I see a lot of useless bums who have made a career out of the benefit system, I see my neighbours who do Nothing and never have done anything and Him next door got a new Mercedes last year, and has a Toyota , cost a hell of a lot more than I spend on holidays. He has his rent and Council Tax paid for by the Tax Payer. He boasts to me he has never worked and never will as long as the Benefits system pays him. They live a good life.
They fly `home` to Pakistan for a month every summer, a family of five, that costs more than Anne and I spend on our trip, all paid for by the Tax Payer.
Because I bought a MN Pension I cannot have a penny benefit so I pay Income Tax on my own money.
I pay for my holidays by being frugal all year, My little car is ten years old this year, I stopped smoking and have one drink a week. what I save pays for my trips, and I go cattle class on planes and ships.the cheapest way.
I used to drink all day and every day, but I stopped to save my money instead of the pub Landlord going on good holidays.
There are some genuine cases of unemployment, for them I feel for, but there are also a hell of a lot of professional bums around.
I do not have a mobile or I Pod or pad, all my "unemployed " neighbours all have them and their kids. Next door He has a TV in every room. for his three kids, I have one old one. It works so I do not need anymore. so I save my money.
When I was unemployed with a mortgage and kids I used to stand outside the newspaper Printers and get the first paper off the line then on my scooter to the job advertiser, I would be there before the papers got into the shops, That is the way to look for a job.
Every man is in charge of his own destiny, I have been there, with a lot of effort I got out of it.
Cheers
Brian.
