Re: to much info
Sadly here in Oz with the commercial stations there is very little international news mainly local mundane stuff interspersed with weather and sport. Sometimes it is hard to know what you are watching.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: to much info
#2... By the same token John, when over in UK last June/July, there was no news appertaining to Australia or New Zealand, if there was, was only a news flash once and then gone. The UK is that engrossed, enthralled, excited, exuberant about being part of Europe ( watch the replies) that it has little time for anything else, apart from pushing their own and their masters views on the various conflicts in parts of the middle east. If it wasn't for such they would be mute.. Cheers John S.

Re: to much info
John, I think every country is the same, when you or living on the E C of the USA international news is what happens on the WC of USA and vice versa, even living in Pakistan in the 70's they thought they were the centre of the Universe, with reports of how UK and USA airforces and Navies came over to be trained and how their imports/exports affected world trade. To be fair I think that the UK stations have more on world affairs than any other country I have visited, perhaps nothing exciting was happening in the Antipodes during your visit last June/July, or perhaps you were missing your numerous sports channels?. As for news on Europe, well it does affect us greatly living so close and being tied up to it (regretfully) in politics and economics. You will have more news of Japan, Indonesia and China in your media than we do ours because they are your nearest neighbours and perhaps influence your imports and exports to a greater degree. We have conflicts on our doorstep and what happens in the Middle East and Balkans affects us greatly on numerous counts, immigration, both legal and illegal, commercially and not least terrorism both internally and externally by home grown and foreign Jihadists. Perhaps you've become so used to living in isolation unaffected by what goes on in the rest of the world, especially in a war rife Europe that you miss the good news that only the Antipodes can give you. Bad news and awareness of it affects our daily lives much more in this part of the world
I don't think that the majority of UK citizens are enthralled, excited, or exuberant about being part of Europe, as Dell boy would say 'Oh Contrai Rodney', you must have a bloody awful holiday if the news influenced your way of thinking, when I'm on holiday the news is the last thing on my mind, but each to his own, perhaps you should holiday more! ivan one thing that does get up my nose the press are interfering with the law. we have had a few so called stars in sex case scandals naming people before they go to trial? we give air time to people that want to kill British because of one religion or another that's like throwing petrol on a fire just what is news and who says so?jp

Re: to much info
I think radio/tv in most of the countries i have visited are almost impossible
to watch or listen to, constant interruptions for adverts etc. Here in Uk we have a very good service, a news program run by the BBC 24 hrs a day and no interuptions, decent in depth ,discussions on just about every subject. Our reports from various parts of the world are always of decent and honest content. I cannot say the same for our gutter press, but hey the BBC is well respected worldwide, KT

Re: to much info
No Ivan it was in reply to John in Ozs remarks about the non news in Australia, saying that the news in UK was no better. As regards the media news I take with a pinch of salt at the best of times. Think at the time we were over however it was a bit blank on Oz news as believe it was getting near elections and various scandals which were never shown on UK tv. I don't think the BBC has any right to better claims than any other country regards its reporting. Years ago maybe, today I would class it with any other country. Our own ABC is quite often accused of prejudice and think more than likely the BBC has the same fingers pointed at them. The BBC and ABC and any other National News agency seem to have lost their Impartiability, this is probably considered old fashioned now. Cheers John S

Re: to much info
#6. Keith we get exactly the same news as you if we go on to Ch. 24.Al Jazeera news and the BBC if we so want. I only watch if so inclined late at night if nothing else on. Usually is full of Egypt, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Somalia, other parts of Africa. Some of the commentators who have been arrested in Egypt is now the big topic. As they were employed by Al Jazeera, and have watched for the past couple of nights, they are not taking the stance of crying foul which is good for them, but have to appear neutral to a certain extent whatever they believe. However this story will soon be over and forgotten. Cheers John S

#8... John, only interested in what happens in own country. What happens in other countries is up to other countries to sort for themselves first. Most countries and displeased populations know with modern technology any story is easy to pass on to the world in general with or without reporters, and then rely on the Good Samaritans to hopefully step in and give them succour. Or maybe should say hope the suckers will step in and be the good Samaritan. JS
