You were educated?

Thinking about the thread concerning where you were born, I got to thinking about where you were educated.

I did the usual primary school getting into the usual sort of trouble. First day got into a fight with a second year student and my mother was warned by the principal that if I continued in this manner she would have to find somewhere else for me.
Then off to secondary school after the 11 plus exams. There I did quite well as it was a secondary Technical school, a new concept then in the mid 50's. The head told my mother I could become a university student if I studied hard. But no, I went to sea instaed and continued my education in a manner that was not possible ashore, it was a far better, and far more reaching education.

Hi Shipmates, As you can tell , I did not have much education at sea age 13yrs , I learned most from the school of hard knocks and the hard-way...

Went to the normal Primary School ,and like John got into a few Barney,s but that was just a school thing those days "Meet you at the Bicycle Shed after School" haha!
Then on to High School at Cape Town High and more Fights! Oh dear! Had to keep up,otherwise you were taken apart!
Only did it to what we called Std 6 ,which was 4 Years off the Matriculation! So at 15 left School and went to work on the SA Railways as Train Steward!
From there well most here know what I did!

common sense will teach you nearly everything you will need in life. hard knocks helps and eyes open mouth shut and you will go a long way listen to the old{that's why I am on here}jp

Went to the village school in Woolpit in Suffolk.Failed my exam to get into grammer school.Decided that I wanted to go to sea and went to Watts Naval school to train for the RN.When I got to 15 and time to go to HMS Ganges they asked me to sign a contract for 7 plus 5 years.
Even at 15 I didn't want a contract so I stayed a little longer and joined MN on the capetown castle.Never signed a contract with the pool,ever.
Since then the only contract of employment I signed was with my 2 wives(at different times)
