Re: Non seafarers, tell us what you think.
I wonder if the invitation for guests drifting through to comment would be taken up at all , We have a hard core of Seafarers and maybe some non seafarers who comment here , and like a lot of these boards and threads , the passing guest possibly feels intrusive by posting , I wonder , if ? there is a way of introducing a thread that would encourage Guests of all persuasions to say hello as they pass through , and confine it to hello and maybe an "official "" welcome from a moderator so the guest does not feel swamped

yes rob it is a good idea ...just like when I joined my 1st ship the bosun and chief steward came and asked me if everything was ok and the captain and all the mates and gingerbeers.would come round through theday and helped me make my bunk ....and said don't worry we know your a bit shy so we have all come to tell you you will love it hear and if anything is wrong just trot along and have a beer with the old man cos he is just now your daddy and mummy allin one and if you get frightened in the bad weather just stay in your bunk and everybody will come to your cabin and look after you just like mammy.......perhaps an avatar on the newcomers site of the bosun blowing kisses and singing ......come and join us ....come and join us ....theres room for thousans more........sent with love from cappy
Re: Non seafarers, tell us what you think.
I mostly agree with some of your comments Rob, however, having an open forum and encouraging non MN members aboard could present some difficulties. Some of the terminology used amongst members may be a bit alien to some, and as to some of us relating our experiences - afloat or ashore in some far off land, as being difficult to either comprehend- or believe. (see post #12) As to the suggestion that non MN would feel inhibited by intruding in what may appear to be a 'private club', the fact that an interest is being shown by a lot more people now since the recent BOA commemorations would suggest otherwise. I would certainly welcome and engage with anyone who would show an interest in what we're about- whatever their persuasion.
Re: Non seafarers, tell us what you think.

Just say Doc by popular demand this post will go back to its original query. After this post one, all others will be expunged. Anyone not agreeing with this please let me know within X hours. Signed Doc. Cheers JS.
Re: Non seafarers, tell us what you think.
Whatever happened to the 1st Duke of Wellingtons dictum- Publish and be damned! I would certainly disagree to have my thoughts and relevant comments ending on the cutting room floor!!

Re: Non seafarers, tell us what you think.
In answer to your Question Doc , we have had much debate about deletion of posts here , and my opinion is still the same , unless a post is offensive , some have been , then even the diversions are of interest , sometimes the diversions as we meander and drift through life have become of great interest , I think censorship is not in my general thoughts , smack wrists by all mean , but trousers down and a full deletion , I prefer to avoid , I say posts should stay , often the diversion does have interest . If not it dies on its own .
And seeing what Tony has just done I think that is a Brilliant Idea , Thanks for that Tony
