Re: Horse Meat.
I have eaten horse meat in France only, enjoyed it but not enough to order again, beef would always be my first choice. Like, veal, venison, lamb or chicken and most fish. Oysters, scallops and lobster a special treat. Pheasant, hare, rather strong. Have not tried ,emu, kangaroo or eel as yet, eel looks revolting, and tripe [loath the smell] I only cook for the dogs. Refuse on principal to have foie have tried it though. As stated before only ever buy from butchers of fishmonger that way you can trace the source. Do not have any objection to horse meat being introduced into the food chain per say, just don't think I'd buy it. Will try most things once! Like Louis I prefer a wager on my horse, each way if the ground is too soft/hard

Re: Horse Meat.
Try Smoke eel , delicious , the jellied type I do not like . With Game , I do not hang it too long , Pheasant , shoot it saturday , bagged and frozen Monday , a friend hangs it 10 - 14 days then it is stronger than a yorkshireman's grip on his wallet

Re: Horse Meat.
I think most of us on here are quite adventurous with food. Sometimes aboard ship it was Hobsons choice when the fresh food and veg ran out, usually after a couple of weeks, especially on some ships where refrigeration was a luxury I, like most here, have tasted every kind of 'foreign' grub ( sometimes literally) usually washed down with copious amounts of booze. I have had horse ( chaval) in France and found it rather bland- perhaps too lean, i enjoy meat with a bit of marbling threading through it. Game, as referred to by a member, is strong meat be it on the wing or the hoof. Snails, tripe, any kind of offal i enjoy ( offal is flavoursome and cheap). I wonder how many of us have been served, in some remote outpost, without our knowledge, Long Pig- a euphemism for human flesh.

I had that in a Dyak Village in Borneo 1960 on a Blu Flu. I wrpote about it in SPICE ISLANDS Seafaring Stories thread,
Tasted good ,enjoyed it same as a lump of Pork, The Consul told us what long Pig was when we came out of the jungle. too late then.
