Desolate North East.

Skelmersdale is a town in West Lancashire. It lies on high-ground on the River Tawd, 6 miles to the west of Wigan, 13 miles to the northeast of Liverpool, 15 miles south-southwest of Preston.

They are fracking all over the place these days, often in some of the most beautiful and unspolied areas. We have similar here in Oz, but the fact is oil and gas are getting expensive so new areas must be sourced. We want the best of both world unfortunately, beauty and the gas. But if the resources are there then we should use them but recover in a manner that does not endanger the environment.

Brian,they where in Formby which is in between here where I am at Seaforth and Southport.I don't know if any of them are still there and it would be interesting to know how many barrels a day they produced.

I knew I had seen some, about 70 years ago. There was a war on and I did see lumps of oil afloating by the beach.
Not too sure of the exact location.
As you say I wonder if they are still producing oil. Have to find out.

Yes I now see that he is saying that he meant Lancashire,it has been going on here anyway for some time.It was put on hold because of some earthquake in Blackpool but it has now been given the all clear.There has been some protesters but I think on the whole if it did bring work here people would be glad of it.We have had worse than fracking here in the NW over the years.I see that the North East Tourist Board have invited the noble Lord up to the NE for a holiday and have even offered him a caravan to stay in.
