Cappy this is not a political thing,all the top people of any importance in the health service top surgeons etc are complaining that with the government cutbacks the NHS is heading for disaster.You might say "we haven't got the money" the money that was wasted on Libya and now the money that they are pouring onto this rebel scum in Syria would more than cover extra nurse cover and the price of operations which are now sorely lagging.

Also I agree with Cappy. A&E departments are clogged up with drunk kids and drug addicts.
They should be charged for treatment , after all it is self inflicted.
Also no one who enters this country should have free treatment or any free Presciptions until they have worked and paid Taxes for Five years.
I have paid Taxes and NI for 63 years and bums from overseas get treatment before me.
They have to stop this or everyone suffers.
I was in Australia and extended my stay, I ran out of Blood Pressure tablets. my mate took me to his Doctor and I had to pay for the prescription. I didnt mind that, after all I had not paid into their system.
So it is time to do it here.

jim there is more money spent in the nhs than ever it is a bottomless pit it may be creaking but any ship overladen in a storm willcreak the powers that be are doing all they can but enough money is not being createdin the whole of the western hemiisphereto block all the leaks and stop all the creaks ....I can only speak for me and mine including a 93 year old mother in law and I have no complaints I have recently had surgery 4 times for a growth in the mouth and could not have been happier with the service and treatment given my family as already stated have nothing but admiration for the service given and god forbid I have more problems .....but if I do im just glad im in the uk ....I can only speak as finds....but have never expected anything to be perfect but certainly don't expect utopia either hope this is not political only medicinal regards a not whinging cappy
Cappy I certainly have no complaints against the NHS in the way my family have been treated even down to the hostpital food.From the top surgeon down to the cleaner the service is first class but without the tools they cant perform in the way in which they would like to.Unfortunately the tools in this case is money.

Some areas of Britain are better than others, a lot is the CEO and the Management of each area.
Now you have the right to tell your Doctor where you want treatment, not just the local hospital that is in a Bad Area.
My local Hospital in Bolton is crap, has a terrible reputation.
I now used Salford Royal Hospital. it is a beautiful place, all new built at a cost of many many Millions. Just like a posh hotel.
The Staff, Nurses, Doctors and Consultants are first class, very professional and friendly.
It is one of the top hospitals in UK and Europe.
I feel very confident in there. and very few residents of the Khyber region in there.
It is worth the journey time just to be treated by British professionals.
So you can try any hospital in the country and they cannot refuse you.
If there is a waiting list for months at your local hospital go elswhere.
Do not sit at home in pain or suffering get your Doctor to book an appointment elswhere.
My sister is in terrible pain with Gall Stones. Bolton said they would seem her in August. I told her to try Salford Royal , she goes in two weeks for the opp..

And after seeing what they charge in the States for hospital treatment I am happy with what I am getting here at no charge.

Whilst in Germany last week i got talking to a Canadian couple who were on a Rhine cruise, he told me of his visit to uk 2 years ago, his wife fell and injured her elbow, and had to go to the hospital(i didn`t ask where), he asked at the end of her treatment for the bill with a receipt for his insurance company, he was amazed when he was told, no charge,. The only thing i can think was that they did the treatment for free, rather than a mound of paper work!!!. KT

Very true Cappy, we have the same here. But in Victorai there is the trial of a new system. Many use the emergency department as a general doctors to save money, you pay at some GP here. Two hospitals are trialing this, they have set up a clinic and now when you report to the emergency department you are assesed by a triage doctor or nurse. If your problem is one that can be solevd by your own GP you are sent to this clinic and have to pay $10. So far the number turning up at emergency has dropped by 60%.Quote:

Two other problems. there are only so many operating theatres in each hospital and an operation can take from 1 to as many as 10 hours to do. Secondly there are some surgeons who only do certain types of surgery.
Then most western hosptals have a priority system to decide who goes first.
Life endangering, serious health issues, long term health issues, mobility then cosmetic, all this interspersed with emergency patients.
Your NHS was most likely set to cope with a nation of maybe 55 million. Now you have over 60 plus the illegals and who knows how many of them there are.
Any one like to take a guess?
I was told years ago that every time your GP-dentist referred you to a specialist he got a trailer fee? Often wondered if this was fact or fiction if the former not too good as another layer of costs.
