The really bad boys nipped over the pub wall , passed the bottles back , not the Beer just the lemonade as every pub was a different brewery , but all the lemonade was the same , Carter's of Sawley , nip down the road and cash them in at the next pub 3d per bottle

Re: Memories............
#35, For Lou, "Barefoot Days" Longer version than Brian's:)
Surely you remember those days that used to be
When your Dad and mother, they sang sweet songs to thee
We got all dressed up spick and span
And off to church we ran
But the very best days of all
Were when we had no shoes at all:-
Barefoot days, when we were just a couple of kids
Barefoot days, oh boy the things we did.
Down by a shady nook, with a bent pin for a hook.
We fished all day, we fished all night
But the blooming old fish refused to bite.
And off we'd slide, down some old cellar door
We'd slip and slide till our pants got tore, a little more
Then we'd have to go home, get into bed
While mother got busy with a needle and thread
Oh boy, what joy, we had in barefoot days.
I can remember how proud I used to be
When my dad and mother, they bought new shoes for me
Now that's the feeling you've all had
How new shoes could make you glad
But the time that you recall
Is when you wore no shoes at all
Those barefoot days, remember those days of long ago
Those barefoot days, remember all the kids you used to know
You'd all go out on a two mile hike, only rich kids had a bike
Take all day to find a tree to climb and get home way past supper time
And then your dad would send you off to bed
You'd have to stay and not get fed
Later that night while you were awake
Your mother would bring along some milk and some cake
Oh boy, what joy, we had in barefoot days.
I'd be so happy if I could only be
Back in my old home town in the days that used to be
Yes that was where we'd roam all day
Down by the brooks we used to play
They're the times that I recall
When I wore no shoes at all
Having read and enjoyed all your memories, no one mentioned a favourite of my mum
and her six brothers, tying string around the door handles of opposite neighbours in the close, chapping at running like ....
Think I'm a bit younger [57] than most of the posters on this thread but do remember nearly all of the same. My own children have swam in the local rivers, went guddling, got stuck up trees, picked conkers etc granted I was with them and now do the same with the grandchildren. Camping, building fires for sausages or toast & beans don't know who is the biggest child hubby or the wee ones all budding arsonists!
#1,Thank you John for the thread
#7 Rocky cannot surpass your sledging story but "ours" is the time hubby took our three to the top of local hill, neighbours doing the same. Got the children on wooden sledge and pushed, only for oldest daughter to change her mind at the last moment and grab hubby's tracksuit bottoms.....yes everything came down for all to see:rofl:

Re: Memories............
#31... Brian really couldn't stop laughing when I read. Reminded me of a school mate who funnily enough has lived out here north of Sydney since about 1953 and I within the past couple of years have got in touch with I used to stick a pin in my shoe and jab it into his buttock, he used to give a roar and jump up out of his seat, when the young female teacher asked him what was wrong he would never split on me, and I would never if he did the same to me. So he used to get the strap in front of the class, this young female must have been no more than 23 years of age and she was practically in tears, the strap really hurt as received on numerous occasions myself, but as tough 14 year olds we didn't think of ourselves as bullys or machoninists or whatever they call them, we were supposed to be tough and had the scars to prove it. The girls in the class were another thing again as they could be as hard as nails. Cheers JS

Re: Memories............
A niece of my wife has just been put on a discipline charge, she is a school classroom assistant, in a junior school, and one of the kids had a hizzy fit and started throwing thing around, she wrapped her arms around him to calm him down, defintely not the done thing, WHAT !!. I can recall arithmetic with Mrs haines at school, and i was daft enough to write on the front of my exercise book *sumsy wumsy with mrs hainesy wainsy*, jesus christ, i was down the headmasters office in seconds and six strokes of the cane across my ****. What a change this world has gone through in 60-70 years, not all for the good, KT

Re: Memories............
I remember a student teacher took charge of our class when I guess the regular teacher was out sick. Her name was Miss Rose—I still remember her after seventy years—she was lovely. Anyway, my mate and I slunk down under our desks and sitting on the floor and were having a great old time...like camping out. I looked around as the class had gone quiet and saw two ladies legs. Miss Rose said something like "You two like it so much under a desk, you will sit under mine." Which she made us do, it was great, we could see up her skirt and she had white knickers on. We didn't tell the girls what we had done, but I remember we were heroes of sorts to the rest of the boys as they all knew Miss Rose had white ones.
