I think you have had a glimpse of the future. Here all our small "Spar" type shops and very small supermarkets are run by Chinese!

Better change the farm name quick.

True, but in many cases they are making things a lot better than they were. Saw the result of Chinese investment in Cambodia, now moving from a third world country to one with a good future thanks to Chinese investment.

What about the fly tippers, who drop there loads anywere they think they can get away with it, often in scienic laybys or picnic spots. Enough to drive a sane man to drink

We have similar problems here George, tip fees are quite high $25 to dump a matress. But we do get two free tip passes per yaer and the council has one or two free collection points a year. The level of dumped rubbish has greatly declined over the last few years since the system was introduced.

At the moment this is one of the few things that the local councils provide for free (shhh!) for householders and yet people still choose to dump their rubbish where ever they feel like:mad: Unfortunately skip hire has gone through the roof because of commercial costs for dumping.

When my passed wife and i on our first visist to the UK i was amazed how clean the Thames and the Mersey was i can remember the both rivers how dirty they were maybe it might have been for the lack of ships anchored out in the river years ago i know the Mersey was full of ships but when i was there in 1993 the only shipsi could see was the ferry and can you imaginewhe we was kids we use to swim in the Mersey not far from the CL ship yards
As for the dumpingof rubbish in NZ it is some of the louts(local)to blame we have now a very efficient of getting our house hold rubbish with recycling but it us ratepayers who have to pay for it

Living in a typical seaside resort I have often wondered why tourists seem to think it is obligatory to dump their takeaway wrappings etc., anywhere and everywhere rather than in the bins provided. Do they not have bins in their own home towns?? The only time we ever get a litter problem apart from in the season is on a Friday or Saturday night when the drunks are incapable of using bins even if they could recognise one. Perhaps there is some excuse for that but there is absolutely no excuse for the tourists so why do they have to do it:mad::confused:

hello Louis regarding clean rivers well the coaly tyne was pretty black but now its very clean its even got salmon in it but sadly no ships sad times for sailors regards cappy from shields

Doc your kidding, having lived in Shanghai & Hong Kong for the last eight years (not now) we reckon they are just appalling. Garbage everywhere, they throw everything out onto the streets. Even when walking the dogs crap everywhere, yes some pick it up but not many. Far worse on the junks-tourists boats in Hong Kong they dump all the waste EVERY thing over board into the sea. We have been on beaches in Hong Kong where they, the mother will without a blink in front of you bury a nappy seriously. Asia except for Japan is just beyond appalling for complete lack of interest in the environment, pollution is beyond bad. Thailand rates up the top too. Land of smiles my a... land of smells more accurate.
