International Express this week over the moon because the British P.M. has stated a public referendum on Europe, either stay or go. The only drawback to this, is the promise is for 2017/2018 if he is in power. Perhaps someone can explain why, without any rigmarole about problems re the small print, why they cant hold a referendum here and now. Surely he owes it to the British people to hold this during his present tenure in office. Why doesnt he hold now and whoever is in power 1n 2017 can act on, if the feeling and want is still there then. It really shows what western politics is all about, bits of paper, the country if the truth was known would run just as good without them and run as it is in any case by the civil service. Thats all a pollie seems to be just a face. A very expensive one both to the country and its future. John Sabourn
It sounds like that an awfull lot of countries are not happy with thier governments, here in the USA its the same 2 parties and both are as corrupt as the other they have created a pit of greed , its always been that the public tax $$$$$ are a never ending suply of money to be wasted on anything that they the elitist polititians can dream up . here in the US they try to demonize the poor and retired people of small means as the ones that are draining the economy , so as to cover up the lack of the rich paying thier taxes . 4000 multi millionaires here pay no taxes at all . and many pay very little with all the tax havens inthe Carribean and elswhere , many of the American people are just like the English snobs who when they get to a certain level of income ,they become republicans and look down on the struggling masses as something too be avoided at all cost . and blame them for all the ills of the day .its an open book that you can buy influence in Washington , that to me rings of coruption ,and nobody doe,s anything about it .so if its a worldwide or at least a western problem, we have to rise up and change our systems . thier are over 300 million guns of all calibers here in the US in citizens hands , what will happen if there is anachy. tarar der for now got to go out and get some more ammo and stock up on my favorite brew :mad:
Neville, it always beats me why our western politicians are always critical of any country that is not a so called democratic state the same as themselves. Some of these countrys have gone their own way for thousands of years, some of them had civilizations hundreds of years before ours. Why should a few faceless persons force their own doctrines on these people, they only have these peoples word that they will be better off. What would happen I wonder if during the riots in the cities in the UK last year, if some outside country had put in their troops to dispel what they could also say was a rising against the government. There is of course dissent in most of the Arabic countrys, but there are also people who believe they are better off with their type of government as against the western world, which they are entitled to do. There would be no conflict if everyone wanted change. One man can not hold a country together he has to have supporters, they also think they are right. Cheers John Sabourn
Why do you have to wait so long? Did you ever watch Yes minister, or yes prime minister?
There is the answer to your question. Governments come and go but the public service remains. Many of the projects, ideas etc are not from the gov of the day but from the public servants who very often are the only constant part of the nations administration. At times they must be convinced that what is proposed is the right thing for the country. For many years my brother in law here was an employee of the tax department, he told me that the yes minister series was so close to the truth that it was not so funny. Just who is running the country?
Why does a democracy need so many politicians? I believe the uk is over 600, God knows how many European wasters. Countrys used to run on a head of state, who appointed certain key figures to assist him/her. Each politician has a staff of people under him. The waste of money, time and so called effort must be limitless. Who says the western idea of government is the best. The democracy as practised is more often than not, not as democratic as it is said to be. A politician unless in an emergency for the safety of its people should not be able to take the country into areas against the peoples wishes. Democracy is the peoples wishes not some career politician carving himself a little empire for his self gratification. The sooner these career politicians realize they are put there to achieve the majority of the peoples aspirations the better. They are only there as long as they perform to the communitys standards. The problem is they can do enough damage in a very short time as has been proved time and time again. Cheers John Sabourn
JC Bob Katter is he still there what an interestingly unusual fellow not too sure if he was a good polly or not but obviously liked by is sparse in No's electoral members?
Happy daze John in oz did you mean to title this thread as 'feral election?' If yes I love it so apt, if not understand. As to JG don't count her party out as the choice is not too god either & the average often vote to keep those they know rather than those they may not. Crikey the failed Jesuit as PM would be for me a serious worry but hey who I am to say though shall still vote however for whom we muse over a stiff drink.
No mate, the title was indeed correct, and yes I agree anything could happen in this one. But I think many underestimate the good the 'mad monk' may do for the country. He is indeed very odd and just maybe that is what we need for a while, time will tell.
Guys, as i posted before, this is just a political move by Cameron, he is only talking about a referendum to try and counter act the votes for UKIP, which he knows is coming, and threatens tory votes. he knows that UKIP can damage his chances next time round. IF, big IF, he got in again, he would claim the need for a referendum is not needed now. He`s a politician, NEVER BELIEVE, Regards KT
This is beautiful, and tells us a lot about politicians, KT
