I have sent messages to the people who Keith kindly put on a post this was a week ago but i have not recieved any reply this was for the Liverpool and London anniversarys but it maybe to early .It would be nice tolet people know so that they can plan their itinerary
I think a lot of it will be a load of Freebies for certain `dignitaries`, who know absolutely nothing at all about it.
And the people it does concern will be shoved into the back ground.
Brian......... a cynical man.
I have in front me the Official Souvenir Brochure and Programme of Events for the 50th Anniversary,Battle of the Atlantic 1993. I was lucky to be home on leave,so I could attend some of the functions. Its occurred to me,I wonder what sort of a show the RN can put on this time around in the Royal Fleet Review off Moelfre, Anglesey. Most of the Naval Ships that took part have gone, including the Royal Yacht Britannia and those that we have maybe deployed to various Hot Spots around the world. So like '93, the Bulk of the Naval Vessels will be Foreign, and very wellcome they are, and apart from thier right to take part, it was great to see these young men and women in their different uniforms having a great time in Liverpool City centre. As for the Red Ensign, in '93 there wasn't many, a few Coasters,Mersey Ferry and a I.O.M. Boat,so this year who knows ? I am looking forward to May,and having a great time, hope you Lads in various parts of the country enjoy your celebrations on the Day.
ttfn Peter.
This is a double header realy.I just called into the Seamens Mission on the way home to have a word with the Padre about the forthcoming celebrations over The Year Of The Convoy and to see if he had the itenary (actually it was for one for the road realy).I was informed by the manageress that the mission does not have a Padre but does have a CEO!!!Fancy a mission without a Padre that was the whole idea in the past, there is a Filpino priest there,he is there on a regular basis. So the mission must now be run as a business. Why I say this could be a double header is,there is a great bar in the mission, the minibus pulled up all the Filipino seamen came in maybe 20 of them.all hands were on laptops and maybe Skype and not a pint or drink in sight so that would fit into Alcohol abuse,I know what it would've been like in our time.I got talking to a young man,I thought he was about 25 but as it happened he was the skipper and he was 40 years of age.I had a very interesting chat with him about present day shipping.

As Peter T said#15 he has the 1993 brochure and programme, there will be the same again this year.I have been in touch with the company which will be putting this out, they will be for sale proceeds going to MN and RN charities.I was talking to a young lady, herself and an RN man are responsible for the programme ,they will be collecting all the info of what is happening where and when these will be listed in day and chronological order in the programme. She was telling me that there is a lady (volunteer) who is very interested in the MN and is going to make sure that the MN is well represented. There will be a reception with drinks for any holder of the Atlantic Star.It is going to be spectacular by all accounts.
Regards.
