The food industry has been full of these cost saving tricks for years , Tesco's and the others think their spot audits and paper trail checks will catch everything . I spent the last 25 years in the food industry , Chocolate Milk Shake has milk in it , Chocolate Shake doesn't have a lot , but it has a lot of powdered stuff and chemicals , Minced Meat Pies have Chicken and pork in with the beef , Minced Beef pies are just beef , Ox Cheek , shin , pulverised bone beef fat , are all beef . If we read the label we would only cook from scratch , why , because food processors chuck skimmed milk powder , Whey powder and a lot of other fillers in to bulk up a product cheaply . Horse meat is lean and nutritious , I have eaten it in France and do not have a problem with it , similar to beef with a slight gamy taste , but I like to know when it is there . There used to be a thriving trade in New Forest ponies , bred , fed running free and exported , since the trade has stopped , the colts get shot at birth and the carcass fed to the dogs , along with the dairy bull calves . Because we assume the horse as a mighty , intelligent , magnificent animal we don't eat them , we condemn the Koreans and Chinese for eating Dog , I really don't fancy that as a staple diet , but one man's meat !!!

Little cafe in Cable St used to do excellent horse steaks with boiled potato, veg, and gravy. A few pints in the Brown Bear and a late lunch there set you up well for the evening session. I used to stay in the New Forest when on leave and got talking to a dealer who was down for the pony sales, he was part of a team buying for the Asian market in Birmingham. Come the next day and due in no small part to all day opening on sale days my mate and I decided to bid against him and push up his prices. We ended the day owning seven ponies!

The dealers never went much over £10 , but it gave the young colts a good year on the forest , at no cost to the commoner who owned it , now they don't get a week ! I do not have a problem as long as HUMANE slaughter is involved , the Asian market sounds a lot like an Iman with a sharp knife . I had no problem with that method of slaughter till I saw one screw it up big style with a goat , It was extremely unpleasant to see , and about as Humane as a thump in the nuts with a lump hammer .

Price-wise you're not far out Rob. We paid between £7 and £13 apart from a pretty filly at £36 which my mate kep and brought on for his daughter. The other ponies we transferred over to a commoner who had off forest pasture for the colts and the others went back on the forest. Not sure how well you know the area, I used to stay at the Beaulieu Road Hotel until the fire destroyed it and then lived in the stationmasters cottage next door. I used to get free accommodation as I was pally with the manageress and also used to take out horse-trekking parties. There were worse places to spend a leave.

My Lidl pony?
In honour of Wally the whale that died in the River Thames a couple of years ago, Vera Lynn is to produce a tribute record, which is to be called "Whale Meat Again".
TODAY: 'Crazy Horse' sounds way cooler that 'Mad Cow'
Traces of zebras found in Tesco barcodes:
I see absolutely no problem with horsemeat in my burgers, which is why my mane is so glossy and I'm running in the 3:10 at Kempton
Whatever next? My Lidl pony?

WALK IT:
Put a few bob on some old nags, as I was told they would walk it, most did just that. Not enough left from my losings to afford a burger anyway. Mind you always ensure the cat is home, safe and asleep prior to ordering from my local far eastern take-away. K.

HONG KONG STYLE;
Would not be happy to find I ate our old mog, Sweet or Sour.
Imagine the cat is male, as no sprogs or just listens to me ?
Chicken sh@t hardly leaves the house and watches the neighborhood cats eat it's food.
I feed half the moggie area.
But doubt I will end up with ours in a stir fry, little fecker hardly leaves the house and certainly has not travelled east, yet ?
