]Travelling down from Edinburgh to Newcastle a few years ago, stopped off at the small port of Eyemouth, Berwickshire.
What a joy and I had never known prior of what they have.
A lovely small seaside village / port / town ?
Only found it as it was food time and I always pull off the main road for my grub, cannot abide Happy Eaters style stuff or the Service stations.
Anyway, had a looksie and some local nosh, bought a souvenier and were to be off. Decided to glance around the corner incase.
What a joy, a maritime museum the likes of not seen by me before.
I wanted the same for my home town. Torn since between saving a vessel or a new build in the style of Eyemouth.
HAS TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED.
And a sound base for a National Museum.
The beautiful fishing town of Eyemouth with its listed quayside would be a tourist magnet if it were uplifted and transplanted to Cornwall. Yet it is virtually on the A1 only 50 miles from Edinburgh and 60 miles from Newcastle and in the Borders. It is close to the entry of the Firth of Forth which now gives access via the Forth Clyde canal to the West Coast, a natural port of call with its deep water harbour for craft coming from Scandinavia and the Low Countries.
They are looking to raise money through a new Scottish charity, Eyemouth International Sailing Craft Association

WORLD OF BOATS:
This is a collection of nigh on 400 boats and 300 plus models with supporting archive from across the world and spanning many centuries. At its core is the former Exeter Maritime Museum collection of Ethnic, European coastal, Day Sailing and other interesting craft of historic significance.
I certainly will return next trip.

The ship in Egypt is HMS Whimbrel she is the last ship of the Battle Of The Atlantic,she was once part of the legendry Johnnie Walkers UBoat hunter killer second escort group.The group attempting to return it to Liverpool have been trying for 10 years, I think the original asking price of £250.000 has now gone up to £1million.There is a berth promised here on the Strand at Albert Dock.There is another ship in Egypt HMS Zenith but I think the Whimbrel will take precedence.

Talking about preserving ww2 ships what about me i am as old of these ships????

I looked up our cor collectioon of preserved and historic ships awaitoing preservartion , take away those under 150 feet long and those whoes names are prefixed with HMS , and I believe that the only commercial Cargo or Passenger ships we have preserved are the SS Great Britain and the Cutty Sark , seems such a shame , but I have stated my opinion on the economic support that preservation societies get and what they need , then I think what lottery funding was available at the Olympics in relation to the medals won then for Rio in 2016 we atre spending Water Polo £4.5m - 0 medals (hit target 0 medals) Weightlifting £1.8m - 0 medals (hit target 0 medals) Archery £3.1m - 0 medals (missed performance target) Badminton £5.9m- 0 medals (missed performance target) There is £15.000.000 that I would rather see tying the QE2 up alongside somewhere with . Eventually, the plan is to move the bulk of the collection down from Eyemouth and display it properly at the Cardiff site.
The collection has now grown to about 400 craft and is in storage at various locations around the UK
The other display centre is the Tithe Barn at Beale Park, on the Thames near Pangbourne. Near the site of the annual boat show, it was opened briefly last year, then closed again for further development. Its full opening, with around 40 river craft and sailing dinghies, is scheduled to coincide with this year's Beale's Park Boat Show (8-10 June). Plans for an all-weather, purpose-built centre at Beale are the design stage, and could open within the next five years.
