Like all of us ,going off into the new venture.

In my particular case .It was a few years ,after the 2nd World War. I was Seventeen .My immediate superiors ,In ages ranged from perhaps Eighteen To Thirty-five years of age With the Aged Fifty or sixty Yrs. old men. in experience ,these fine ,hardly out of their Teens ,Men. Had seen or ,Done it All ,as it were , in the few short years of their existence
Naturally ,hopefully ,us younger ones inherited ,some of the admirable Traits ,they possessed. Knowledge of a dangerous World, A capacity ,regarding Races ,to sort ,The Wheat from the Chaff. Where to enjoy and where to avoid ,etc.
In retrospect the knowledge of the World and it's People. Has forever left me with belief , that any good bunch of Merchant Seamen , could have put the loud mouths, and has since been proved,To Shame. Of course there's always an exception ,to the rule,or Theory. And I think we all know .Who that one is!

Back to the Subject, Misspent Youth. glad I followed the lads ,on the Runs ashore . First Boozer, ,SingAlongs .often surrounded by Senorita'as , Who lived ,conveniently close, if not upstairs. In Fact, may have overspent , but Glad I did , personally, as I was Wont to do.
What's inspired this posting , is the alarming behaviour , in response to that idiotic ,simple little video.
Taking in to account the literally billions of protesters ,and the Threats
One must be alarmed. As ,the Bali bombing, 9/11 ,etc. etc , has demonstrated.
So now don't really enjoy , going to big public Places. still do though.

Evan you are absolutely right there was an unwritten rule regarding all the areas you mentioned aboard ship, rarely did a misfit stay so, at worst he may have been isolated if he could not be brought round, or if a non washer scrubbed down with the old carbolic soap & deck brooms etc. Only experienced a thief once aboard & that was not proven, he got a hell of a time I still recall it vividly. Never came across any racial problems at sea, occasional remarks which we were all guilty of but not problems aboard.
In regards the current hullabaloo along with deaths caused, damage to property etc, it was as I understand an Egyptian TV shock jock who aired this rubbish for his own reasons which set the whole thing aflame, prior to that no one had or would have heard of the crap video? I mentioned to my wife this morning after the news "what would happen if we responded in kind in our respective countries to the things the Arab (generalisation) world say-do to westerners?" Her response was, "then it would just escalate further." Me I feel we should consider something as they are beyond hypercritical in their outlook in everything. When they come here they chase women of ill repute, drink like fish, generally make rectal passages of themselves. Yet when you go there you must comply with their inane social rules or suffer serious punishment as many a westerner can attest, go figure?
Look at that mob in Sydney over weekend, why on earth Arabs were allowed in to that country is a mystery, they are in reality the only ethnic immigrants who have not in any way assimilated & do not wish to. Worse they can bring in every relative of any age once they are in. Irony is you could not not that you would migrate to their countries, though would love to see my wife puttering around in a burkah (:.
The misspent youth we had was more than most get in their whole life let alone our experiences along with lessons learnt which stayed with us to today, thank him up above.

Could be in a Civic Hall ,or a Marquee, in some Bush Town. They enter Stage Left ,could be in Turbans , Welsh hats , Scottish Kilts. Saris, Whatever. ,emerge Stage Right. Australians.!

My argument being, 'If it was a Spaniel , Daschund, Terrier, French Poodle, etc, When they emerge ,are still the same ,with the same instincts .
Allow then for the the argument "'But wer're Humans , not dogs. "

O.K. then, just watch the street scenes ,when for instance Italy , Greece ,Croatia, Wales Lebanon etc. is
Playing an OZ. team. and Win.

Oh! what a "Life of Brian" we led back in those halcyon days of our youth, no thoughts of racialism, in the crews. Maybe thought that you wouldn't like to live like others, but that was the way the world went around.

There have been many films made about religeon and some in a mocking tone, remember 'Life of BRian'? But no one took offence. Now we have the mad clerics calling for a holy war in a country,Oz, which had nothing to do with this film. Again the media stir it up by continuing to show all the violence etc. But there is now a theory that those who started the riot where not Moslems but others who want to paint the Moslems in as bad a light as possible. Thye know that at these rallies there will be a few radicals, just stir them up and you have an instant riot .

Just wish now that I could recall what I did in my youth as it was so miss spent. Could not have been that bad as I am still here and free. Think that movie is being manipulated out of context for political gain. just remember that there is an important election in Nov and there is always shitte going on when that happens. What concerns me is I used to say hello and smile at ******'s in the shopping centres as I do others and feel sorry for them because now they constantly look away in embarresment and can only thank the radical garbage within their own lot for that. Could be I look like an ugly vagina and they wonder who that idiot is smiling at them but then as I say. That is the way the mop flops. Could also be because I am eating a bacon sanga as well.
