I have lived by the sea in NZ, up the mountains here in Aus, nnnnnow wwwe live near the Southern Alps and it's Blo*^%y freezing in the winter, but the air is so clean it hurts to breath ha ha. The people here live to thier late 90s to over a 100, and not a skerrick of pollution to be seen in the sky, my wife calls Cooma, Australia's Brigadoon.

In the 60's life expectancy was about 70. Now it is in the mid 80's. But a recent report says the current generation and their sendentary life style will see life expectancy drop back to about75. Too much junk food and not enough exercise. But as i recall no where in Uk is more than 70 miles from the sea,
Its all gone now Peter, Fleetwood is Closed. and will never open again. I go every alternative weekend.No Fishing boats, No Fish Dock, No Ferrys to IoM or Ireland. Very sad. The EU had banned fishing so the port closed.
Only the` Fishermans Friend `factory still going. They are good for the chest.

went to Fleetwood last Saturday, 2 small fishing boats in, but most of the fish ing buildings look semi derelect, only good thing, a fish and chip meal in the cafe royale near the tram terminus!
I was reliably informed that if I had a bad chest to "go and suck a Fisherman's Friend."
I don't know either ,except (1) I hate the smell of raw fish and
(2) I'm not that way inclined.

I too live by the sea though I do not think that living where I do is going to prolong my life judging by the amount of times I have been dived bombed by huge seagulls determined to snatch my greggs pasty away from me. I'm sure that one day one of these feckers is going to send me tumbling over Marsden cliffs.

John, I am surprised that no one has nicked those Iron Men and sold them for scrap. Must be worth a few bob.
I have seen them but cannot figure out why they are there.
