Really Rough Ships
anyone recall a vessel of the above name? i recall it was going through the Pool late 50's or early 60's but could never find a crew. I was never on her and apparently she was a supply ship on the Mersey victualling ships at anchor. Owned and operated by the Co.op Apparently she was areally rough ship and only the desperate would agree to work on her.

British coastal steamer (967 gross tons). 1931: Built at South Walker Yard for East Coast Shipping Department of the Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd. During World War II served as repair ship with military crew. 1957: Sold to Greek owners; renamed Georgios I. 1962: Renamed Pola II. 1966: Renamed Kastriani. 1969: Sold to Lebanese owners; renamed Mabrouk. 23/11/1969: Foundered near Cyprus following an explosion thought to have been caused by a time bomb. Was on passage from Beirut to Trieste with general cargo. SO late 50's early 60's the ship was a Greek and gone ! Lasted 40 years though !
