Bearing in mind that we have members on here who are in their late 80's and 90's, plus we have members from every differing path in the MN, not to mention the wives, girlfriends, sons, daughters, grandchildren and even great grandchildren I think it is unfair to make the assumption that everyone will automatically understand some of these initials. Therefore with the greatest of respect maybe we could all avoid using the abbreviations.(:tr_oops: sorry MN is Merchant Navy just in case) I know, personally speaking, I have read some posts of late and not knowing what the initials stood for just ignored it and moved on to the next one. The interesting thing is, other posts have included our general distaste for 'text speak' and yet some of us use it on here occasionally.

Used Daily in Deck and Engine Room Log books and movement Books. There are plenty outside of this as well and may come back to some.

i have just read through this thread from the beginning and found it very interesting. a couple of things annoy me.
spelling. Is it too much trouble just to read through what you have written and correct mistakes, ie missed letters or letters out of place?. abbreviations. why not just write out the words?. or perhaps you are in a hurry to go somewhere now you are retired.
