Post #58, think your self lucky you have not lived here in Melbourne.
Up until about 1985 it was common every year at Christmas for the local brewery to go on strike, you may have heard toe song, 'A pub with no beer'
Written in London by an Aussie there on holiday bemoaning the annual ritual.

Des, many of our pubs here do a pint for $8 which is bloody good, value.
Bowls club in Moama at weekend paid $10.5 for a pot and glass of Chardonay.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Hi, well, I was comparing Castlemaine with other lagers available at that time in Oz...... Compared with those, it was the best of bad bunch.
And as I say... it was lot better than the Castlemaine that was made in the UK: Again the old "Chalk & Cheese" adage comes to mind.
I'm no fan of ANY lager to be honest... I'm an Ale Drinker...... but, as we all know..... any port in a storm.
    Cheers, Good Health!

Ice cold Oz beer, nothing better on a hot day than sucking on stubbies.

But the price is directly proportional to the cost of living and the tax imposed by govs, also the amount in your pocket.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
