    Default Geestport

    Hello

Any one out there who served on the Geestbay or Geestport out of Barry in the early 70's?

I was a junior engineer with the company from 1970-1972.

    Default Bananas:

Louis My Amigo, I remember as a youngster the Geest Ships, in Barry, never got to go on one, but had loads of free bananas. I say ships now, then they were the Geest Boats: Apparently, you can put a boat on a ship, but not a ship on a boat, hence calling them Geest Ships now:

    All the best mate:

    Regards,

    Keith.

    Default Geest Memories-Great Days

Was with Geest from 1965 to 1975 exactly 100 trips. Great ships, great people, great food.

    Hi all
I was with Geest from 1980 til 1990 (I think, if the Tennants serves me correctly )
What a wonderful 10 years, a great time with great people (crew, officers and passengers).
I started as assistant cook with Peter Rees, Micky Hands, Colin Williams and Ronnie Bird (chief cooks) and worked my way up to chief cook, had a great time until I couldn't work no longer for medical reasons

There's some names there Stokesy! I sailed with Risso again just a few years ago in RFA. He went there after the Geest lay off in 94. I heard you finished on Medical grounds. I hope all is well.

Were you with Geest from January to March 1970 ? I paid off at the end of March for the last time. Came ashore then but was with Geest from 1966 to March 1970 - served on all four ships.

Hi I was a trainee Sparks in 1969 with Bruce showing me the ropes for 2 trips, then thrown in the deep end as solo Sparks in 1970, reflecting back on the time it was mostly a pleasant experience.

Was that Bruce Geale? I sailed with him on my second trip to sea as 2R/O on Geestbay

Hi - I did trip as 2R/O in late 1971 on Geestbay with Bruce Geale as Radio Officer. Had some good parties in the Islands from recollection. I think Rod Stewarts 'Maggie May' had just come out and that was our main 'music' in the bar at party time.
